Preach it, brother Enscheff. Plus, the Braves haven't spent a significant amount at the deadline since 2022 (Iggy, Odorizzi, Grossman, etc.).

Unless one of those remaining starters are dirt cheap, I don't see the reason to invest in one of them. I would rather trade for an impact guy or roll with our backend guys until the deadline

I think we're about 23ish million below the 3rd CBT threshold. Signing Bassitt for 18.5m would have left us like 5 million to make in season trades.

I'm not defending the reasoning. I'm just pointing out why he likely wasn't an option at that price.

I think you have to address the rotation before the season starts with a quality option and if you need to make some in-season additions, you pay a little extra in prospect capital to get the other team to cover the contract for the remainder of the season. Or you simply target cheaper players at the deadline.

it would be deep if Lopez and/or Holmes was in there.. but as of now it is Iggy/Saurez at tier 1 then Lee/Bummer as the next man up.. then a bunch of hopes and prayers.
 
If used properly, Elder can be good for a rotation. Never let him face the heart of the order a third time in high leverage.. an opener would be a nice way to leverage that.

I am hoping and I am assuming AA is too, that a few of these pitching prospects pan out this spring.. There are some that should be ready and can be a nice surprise.

relievers I am hoping step up: Burkhalter/Lara/Munoz

It seems like AA sees this window closing sooner than expected and is hedging his bets instead of going all in one way or the other.
 
I don't think Murphy could have been moved bc of the hip. Bummer is getting way too much and that money would help a lot right now. Ritchie is so close that the team probably don't wanna trade him bc he's gonna be a big cheap piece for us this year. I wouldn't trade Cam just bc his upside is so huge and with Sale getting older and all the other question marks we have he should be ready next ST to start. AA dug himself a hole by not wanting to spend on the rotation the past few years and get guys that didn't carry a ton of risk.
 
Only thing I can figger is they think Diddy and Wagner and Murphy and JR are Tommy Glavines and Steve Averys and Kevin Millwoods and John Smoltzs
 
Schwellenbach’s injury creates a situation where we don’t just need a starter in the Bassitt/Giolito tier but now one higher up who could be a 2, even function as a 1 when Sale inevitably sneezes and breaks a shoulder. I don’t really care how deep they think the bullpen is. Relying on the bullpen to go 5 innings a night is not going to hold up over 162.
