2025-2026 offseason thread

We had the same concerns last year as this year and still not one SP has been acquired. If that's not a fail I don't know what is. If the season goes south bc of SP injuries then AA needs to be on the hot seat and there's no way to spin that.
 
Saw an opening day lineup and starting rotation projection today.

The bottom 4 of the lineup was Albies, Harris, Eli White, Dubon

The rotation had Holmes, Lopez, and Elder in it.

Lopez Is likely cooked I’m not sure why everybody insists on trying to fool themselves
 
This is just like a prospect getting shelled and everyone saying he is working on things.

Lopez hopefully has been throwing the whole offseason. I wouldn’t expect him to maintain 95 for6 innings right now. But to be throwing a BP session and have a 4plus MPH drop is a huge red flag. I don’t think he makes it through spring.

Who is doing that?

I asked a question on whether guys are usually throwing in their normal velocity range this time of year. I even hedged that question with "I don't have faith Lopez gets through the season unscathed."

Regardless, Google seems to believe it's at least somewhat common. Found a fangraphs post showing spring training highesr risers and fallers in velocity from 2024. A few pretty well known names on that last. Those names ended having good seasons without large fluctuations in their velocity in the regular season or significant injuries. Obviously they weren't coming back from shoulder surgery, but that's not really the point of what I was asking.

So I guess the better question is, is it typical for Lopez to be this far down in velocity this early in ST. I haven't been able to find any data on that.
 
There’s absolutely a reason for concern based on history. I’m frustrated as fuck that Alex still refuses to just go sign or acquire a legitimate starter to slot in and push Holmes (or someone else) to the bullpen.

Also, none of us have access to a player’s medicals and we’re not in a position to know anything meaningful. This is fan speculation based on vibes, timelines and what we think we’re seeing. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen... it just means we don’t actually know.

Either way: AA, go get another starter and put many of these concerns to bed.
