5/6/15 Phillies at Braves 7:10 PM GDT

Do what? Lock them up...like next season? Why would you do this?

You have to admit it at least makes sense with Shelby.

The Bumgarner contract is one of the 5 best in baseball and he got his extension around this same time. Locking up Shelby now makes a tom of sense.

I'll be the first to admit that the offense has wildly surpassed my expectations. But being objective, I think there's plenty of reasons why:

- Players overperforming (AJ, KJ, Simmons(?), Maybin, Markakis
- Not facing much quality pitching - only guy I can think of was Cueto - but we did hit him well
- Hitting more homeruns than I would have thought - unlikely to continue

Just wish the pitching would have shown up to help out a bit

The Braves are hitting more homes than last year (I'm guessing) and obviously stiking out a ton less. Nobody woukld argue that that's not a good recipe. But the question will remain if the power can keep it up. I have my doubts

Other than AJ and a little KJ I just don't see why we would expect there to be a big downgrade. Maybin has tremendous ability but has been hurt the last few years. We all know Simmons has pop and great contact skills. Markakis isn't hitting for any power but basically has a tough AB every time out.

If anything, the pitching will get better more than the hitting will come down.

During the off-season I thought it was likely we would see improved offensive output at first, short, third and center without personnel or with minimal personnel changes. And so far, we have in fact seen Freeman and Simmons improve over their 2014 numbers and some improvement at the other two positions. I think those improvements are sustainable given the track records of the players in question.

There are two positions, however, where significant regression (relative to what we have gotten so far in 2015) appears likely. Left and catcher.

So some of the improvement is likely to be sustained. Some not.

I think our pitching will improve more than our hitting will regress.

Agreed.

The Braves offense isn't unsustainable. The team wide BABIP is .290 and the wRC of 101. Both are league average numbers.

Where we might see some regression is RISP. I think the broadcast last night had it at around .340 for the season. That won't continue, but I think, by and large, the offense should be around league average moving forward.

Markakis has a 107 wRC+
Heyward last year had 110

You described Heyward's offense as a joke, yes?

Since Heyward was supposed to be a superstar and I was extremely frustrated watching him play...yes it was a joke last year.

I still root for him and hope he recovers this year though.

You sound more bitter about Heyward ever being a Brave than those who are still bitter about him being traded.

OK... just making sure we're consistent.

At some point you will realize this years team is much more fun to watch. At some point....

Stop being so damn bitter man. I don't know what your fascination with me is. At this point you should know who I am. An irrational homer fan. Get over it.

I'm bitter because I thought I was about to watch one of the greatest players to ever play the game and he didn't even come close to accomplishing that. Right now he is entering the the scary realm of Jeff Francouer (another guy who crushed me).

You equate Heyward with Hack?

You are definitely more bitter than any of the NegaBraves crowd.

The fact that you think Heyward is anywhwere close to Francoeur just shows you really don't know what you are talking about.

I said right now...which is based off of what he is doing this season.

I didn't say he was there and couldn't recover.
