6/12/15: GDT - Atlanta Braves @ NY Mets

We are on track to go 77-85. Pretty close to what many thought prior to the season starting. We aren't awful, but not very good either.

what would jace have to end the year with for folks to say he's our long term 2B?

I think the d is going to be there. I'm thinking I'd need to see him get over 1 offensive war. If he does that he'll probably be pushing 2.5 WAR.

I am Team Peraza, but Jace is making me change my mind a bit. He looks at least average offensively for a 2B and the defense is obviously superb.

Freddie is quietly having an amazing season. He might be the most under appreciated super star the Braves have ever had since I've followed the team.

We are going through a rough patch because of the pen. I think the pen will turn it around at some point and we will go on a roll. Aardsma looks like a quality addition. Vizcaino will be back around the All Star break. Banuelos could get a shot in the pen. Maybe we make a small trade for a halfway decent reliever before the trade deadline.

So lets see for a moment: Mallex Smith continues his good work in the minors. Peraza will be up with the big club, I believe, at some point this season. Either Peraza or Peterson moves to third with the other at second. How about a combination of Peraza/Smith/Peterson at the top of the lineup in 2016? I could go for that.

Dob keeps saying they won't put one at 3rd bc they don't have enough power and arm strength issues. This is from a team who extended Chris Johnson....looking at u JS.

Peraza smith peraza leads to a lot of games like last night where we can load bases and not get any runs.

Some scouts think peraza could get prado like power. Might need 2 yrs to grow into his body. Peraza is 6 foot and thin while mallex and albies are just tiny

I really do think that as Jace gets his feet underneath him he is going to show more power. This kid is going to be a good one. 1.3 WAR and counting....

for me it can't be all defensive driven at 2B. I think he's needs to get 1 offensive war. He's on pace for that. if he could get to 3 WAR that would be something.

He has the size that you think he could be a double digit HR guy. The swing just seems to not get a lot of loft. But if the doubles come a little more frequently and the base running improves....

Assuming we keep hitting well (lucky) with RISP. We are on the very high end in that area right now. If that stops then it's going to get worse. Of course you would assume we get better relievers at some point to possibly counteract that.

Wren extended CJ, different regime.

And i agree, we need some power at C, 3B, and LF.

Or if Teheran and hte back end of the rotation continues to pitch well. I think there is plenty of reason to believe the Braves will improve in some areas while regressing in others.

Probably right. These things generally even themselves out over the course of the season. I still think we lose close to 90 games.

Well if this bullpen doesn't improve we are going to definnitely lose 90 games. The aggregate effect of a bad bullpen over the course of 162 is tremendous. I was hopeful for a little bit and still will hold out hope until we see how Aardsma/Eveland/Viz/Mckirkan integrate come mid July. The team is surprisingly not far away from being a playoff team. Problem is the thing they are lacking (power) is the hardest thing to come by so they have to be more creative to be a productive offense.

I'm very encouraged and surprised just how competitive we have been. There is a lot of help on the way.
