I remember Lombard as a hotshot Braves prospect around the turn of the millennium, and I remember how pissed some folks on whatever message board we were using at the time were when the Braves traded him in 2002. And not only is he about to become a big league manager, this isn't even one of those cases where a former player gets hired right after retiring. The guy is now a seasoned, experienced coach. Time is a son of a bitch, man.

George Lombbard, Jr., was the Yankees' first-round draft pick in 2023, so yes, time is a real son of a bitch. I had high hopes for George, Sr., but he turned out to be another football player drafted when Chuck Lamar was running the draft. Great athletic talent that didn't translate into baseball skills.

Really similar teams from the surface stat angle. Dodgers hit a little better. Yankees pitch a little better. Both teams hit a lot of HRs. Dodger bullpen looks to be a little more reliable.
