Around Baseball 2024 edition

I wonder if he would have been a bigger deal back when online stathead types were championing high-walk, high-OBP, low-power minor league prospects like Jackie Rexrode. Everyone has kind of soured on that archetype.

I remember Carl Loadenthal caused a bit of a buzz when he was in the lower reaches of the Braves' farm system. Non-drafted guy who made it to AAA.

Jazz with a UCL injury and will probably need surgery. He was on a tear since being with the Yankees.

Boy the Rangers could really shake up the playoff race if they put some of those big names on waivers. Im not sure anyone would gamble that big of money on those pitchers but dang it would be tempting if you thought they put you over the edge.

Maybe the Mets try to get DeGrom or Max back?

I'm gonna be real irritated if they don't put in a claim for Amed Rosario

Absolutely. He will cost only about 500k for the rest of the season and would a great option at SS, and great insurance for Arcia and Riley should they have to miss a couple weeks.

someone went and straight up kicked the Dback's team puppy and they are taking it out on the whole league because of it.

The Padres to. They are both only 3.5 games behind the Dodgers. Us missing the playoffs would almost be worth it if it meant the Dodgers missing after what they spent.

there is no chance they will miss the playoffs. They have a 7.5 game lead on the 3rd WC.. it would be an epic collapse. Now, they could get knocked down into the WC round if AZ and/or Dads day hot.

I have a feeling the Braves and Phillies are going to face off in the WC round

If this somehow ends with us knocking out the Phillies in the first round of the playoffs I am never going to stop laughing. It won't be a pleasant laugh, but I will be laughing.

Assuming you mean divisional round? The Phillies are likely gonna be the No.3 seed at this point. Brewers have a cake schedule from here on out.

I saw the video earlier this morning and notice his fastball had some horizontal movement. So I went an looked at his savant page and his fastball had average movement already.. wondering if it is more or less.. but his problem has always been a 3rd pitch that hitters have to actually respect. the curve before he went down was unplayable so hitters could just wait the fastball out and attack it. He would need pin point command to survive the 2 pitch arsenal.

So unless the 'slider' and/or curve are worth anything.. or his fastball truly has more horizontal movement, then I don't hold hope he ever comes back as an effective starter.
