Marlins sending Fernandez tonight vs Nats. His innings limit for the rest of the year is 12, according to MLB.com article. So I guess he pitches 6 tonight and 6 vs us Weds or Thrus.

Hope they start to limit Evoldi's innings too, as we can't seem to do anything with him. He goes Sat. Nats will get Fernandez, Evoldi and Turner this weekend in MIami, don't expect to see a lot of runs scored.

Just checked in on the players the D-Backs got in the Upton/Johnson deal

Brandon Drury (Low A) - .302/.362/.500 - He hit 15 homers and had 85 RBI. Very solid year for him.

Nick Ahmed (AA) - .236/.288/.324 - Not a great season

Zeke Spruill (AA,AAA,MLB) - great in AA, so-so in AAA, and pretty bad at MLB...started 2 games for the D-Backs this year.

Randall Delgado (AAA, MLB) - he was pretty terrible at AAA, but has done well with the D-Backs at 4-5 with a 3.69 ERA.

Martin Prado (MLB) - after a very slow start he's up to .286/.336/.422. He has an offensive WAR of 1.9

It seems the Braves were actually pretty lucky to get Chris Johnson in the deal. It wouldn't be so good if it was just Upton for those guys, but Johnson has put up an offensive WAR of 2.5 and Upton 2.9. When defense is taken into account, it's even closer with Johnson and Upton only putting up 1.7 WAR to Prado's 2.8. D-Backs fans who complained about this trade when it went down should look at the numbers because the trade ended up pretty even so far, and you could argue the D-Backs got the better end of the deal this season even though Upton carried the Braves in April.

Just from the dynamics that having J-Up brings to the table... to go along with Johnson and then the rest of the team... for the foreseeable future, the Braves won the deal, hands down IMO.

Unless Spurill steps it up a couple of notches, Drury can keep it up all the way to the big league level (which is a long ways to go yet) and something clicks in with Ahmed (which I doubt), the only way that the Braves 'lose' this trade is if J-Up gets hurt seriously and misses a LOT of time.

Plain and simply, the Braves had no room for both Teheran and Delgado in the rotation and they weren't going to put one in the pen (because, why would you with their arms). They got a ridiculous talent back and fulled a hole in the OF and in the lineup. After Prado and Delgado, the three others were essentially throw ins IMO to make it even for the D-Backs giving us a 3B in return in the form of Johnson.

Upton/Johnson > Prado/Delgado... even if Johnson wasn't in the hunt for a batting title; the fact that Delgado was expendable makes this a clear win for the Braves.

I don't think it was a clear win for the Braves. I'm also not saying that the Braves didn't do good with this trade. I do it every time. I'm just saying that the D-Backs got a lot in return, and the people against this trade for the D-Backs should look at the numbers and realize it was more even than they thought it would be. I would honestly call it a win-win for this season.

Just wait. Prado is a ticking time bomb and they signed him until after 2016.

It's a clear win for the Braves unless one of those prospects turns Wainwright. We traded 1 year of Prado and a bunch of B/C prospects for Justin Upton and a guy in the mix for the batting title.

Without this positive of a season from Johnson it was a clear win for the Braves. With Johnson raking it's murder.

Seriously think about it. Prado has a 2.2 fWAR,Justin and Johnson are both in the mix for 3 WAR seasons. So we turned 1 roughly 3 WAR player into 2. Not to mention getting rid of Delgado made room for Wood, who's outperformed Delgado.

Actually neither Justin or Johnson will likely get to a 3 WAR unless they go on a Justin in April tear. It's doubtful they hit 2.5 WAR. Prado is almost at 3 right now (2.8). Both Justin and Johnson are at 1.7.

All I'm saying is that the D-Backs fan who were just slamming the trade need to realize they got a lot more than they thought they were getting, and it's not as one sided as it seems when the trade went down.

I guess one of these years you may actually be right on Prado if you keep saying it every year.

What I say about him IS right. What did I say about his year last year? That playing 150+ games was going to hurt him at the start of '13. Look at his first half. He has rebounded nicely, but is still not the .800+ OPS player you all claimed he was. His splits tell the tale. Every year with many games is followed by a bad first half (twice). Every other year has a good first half followed by a bad second half. And his Septembers are almost always abysmal (only two with an OPS over .660). .250 .250 .350 .600 so far this September, though it IS early.

The dude is still young and can't stay on the field without it hurting his game--only going to get worse as he ages. Gibson has been smart. Prado has had a lot of days off.

I am not going to go through another back and forth about Prado. This is all you need to know: This will be the first year since he started the year as a starter (2009) where he will not have a drop of nearly 100! points on his OPS in the second half. And that is largely because his first half this year was horrendous. Year after year after year he fades in the second half and he can't perform (on average) late in the game. He fades in the season. He fades in the game. And he is only 29! How is he going to play at 30+?

Funny because I distinctly remember you as being firmly in the "Prado is nothing but a ML scrub" camp when he was first called up. Now, mind you, you did give a mea culpa (along with several other posters) on his abilities, but you were clearly wrong for years on Prado too.

Why do you even post here if you're not a Braves fan? Just curious.

Yeah, I was wrong on Prado after he spent a couple years in the majors.

Another factor to add into the Prado mix was we weren't going to be able to resign him. So it might be a win-win this year, but into the future we're the clear winner unless, like someone else pointed out, one of the pitchers turns into Wainwright which is highly unlikely.

A lot of people were wrong about Prado. Dalyn continues to be wrong about Prado.
