Around Baseball

I know this isn't ML related but have any of you heard of George Springer the Astros stud prospect? Yes the Astros have a legit stud for a prospect and he may end up with the coveted 40/40 albeit the minor leagues. He's done it at two different levels(AA and AAA) but still is pretty tough feat to accomplish. he will be 24 in about 2 weeks and I wonder if the Astros would not call him up just so he could do it. Strikes out a ton but still takes a really good amount of walks as well. He's also got 27 2b's and 3 3b's to go along with it so the guy has got some serious pop in his bat and has only been caught stealing 8 times in 52 tries. Looks like the 'stros may finally have a decent talent in their farm for a change.

We shouldn't be concerned about the Nats catching us, that ain't happening. We should be focused on finishing first overall. We hold that position now but it will be hard to keep it without Heyward, IMO.

Dont you watch ESPN? The Nats are the best team ever assembled. They are just hitting their stride. We are the doomed.

I don't watch ESPN if I can help it (usually only the nights the Braves are on ESPN). I tend to watch MLB Network a lot more, though I have issues with them too. I cannot stand ESPN, so I pretty much stopped watching it years ago.

olberholtzer with a CG 4 hit shutout

Clemens did well his first start for them too. I remember the time of the Bourn trade noting that I liked both of them (when some others were talking like they were nothing). But either way it was a very good trade by Wren. I think we all expected Bourn to cost more than that.

The trade was still a good trade but it should give us hope IMO for guys like Martin/Northcraft/ Schlosser and some others. Braves prospects are often underrated now.

That was partly my point, I find more times than not our minor league pitching prospects underrated. As more of them go on to have success here or elsewhere maybe that will change a bit. I expect Delgado to be one of those that improves. Also, at least one of Clemens or Spruill will likely turn into a solid Major league pitcher too. Though I am not sure if that will be in relief or starting.

If Oberholtzer keeps pitching like he has so far, then the Astros will look back on the Bourn trade fondly. In other words, I see it likely to turn out as a win for both sides (and not the terrible trade that some made it out to be).

If he turns out that good, gonna be fun to watch him in a Yankees, Dodgers, Philthies or BoSox uniform in a few years.

Just one more time in my lifetime would I beg for the Braves to win the World Series so I could watch the ESPN nitwits' heads explode!! Shove it right up their a$$!!!!

If you're talking about mocking ESPN or giving Heyward a hard time. I've noted as much, but that's really beside the point of my post.

I think the real point is the Braves are 7-4 since the Heyward injury. 8-4 if you include that game as well. That's a 636 winning %. And we faced the 2 teams that are any good too. The rest of our schedule is against baddies. I'm not saying we will take the top spot in the NL and that losing Heyward isn't a big deal. But he's one guy and our team is really ****ing good. And we are playing a bunch of scrub teams the rest of the way.

You were right. I thought they had more to them but like you have been saying all year. They just can't score at all.

To be fair, Hamels was dealing.

He's been lights out the past 2-3 months, probably shuts us down too when we face him this weekend. Had everything working.

This is old news, but his changeup is ridiculous. When it's right it has an absolute string on it. Filthy.

Nats lose again. Still waiting for them to take advantage of their easy schedule and make a run.

They have been playing well. 16-11 in August. They just don't have enough time to make it to the playoffs without some Dodgers type of run, which isn't happening.
