Around the League - 2021 Szn

I have to assume this is significant and good news?

Guessing he means 2020 and not 2019. Not sure how you mistake that year. But yes, I would think 54 million in operating profit would be pretty substantial over a quarter for a baseball team.

Should be noted that the Braves had a profit of 64 and 62 million in 2018 and 2019 in the same quarter compared to the 54 in 2021. That's pretty good being close to pre-pandemic levels and I assume the small drop off is the stadium not being at full capacity until early May.

I haven't been this year, but is the battery at full capacity? That too could play a role in the numbers. Also, phase 2 might have begun increasing outflow.

This was the type of short-term, below market type of extension I had mentioned before.

I'd think it's fair to assume he's going to get around $10 million this winter if he goes to arbitration. I'd also think it's fair to assume he's got another 3-4 two win seasons left. If you could get him to take a 3 year/$30 million deal with a team option for $10 million in 2025 I'd think that should turn out to be a relative "bargain" if he stays healthy.

Is that more than you'd like to pay? Sure - but I think there's a chance that that kind of deal could turn out to be really good, and not a whole lot of chance that it comes back to really bite you in the *ss if he stays healthy. There are always going to be folks who wind up disappointed in him since they expected him to be a star based on his draft position, but if you could lock down that position for the rest of your window for less money than Simmons is making at 31 years old that's a pretty good investment IMO. $10 million/year would put him somewhere in the range of the 12-15th highest-paid SS, and that's probably right where he ought to be (regardless of where the $/WAR number falls).

I don't think 10m a year for 3 years is even near the line for more than I would want to pay for Swanson.

I mean, if you can get Swanson for three years and $10 million a year you should sign that before someone thinks to ask if Dansby and his agent are actually in sound enough mind to enter a legally binding contact. Andrelton is making $10.5 million, for crying out loud.

Well Albies signed for 5 million a year. lmao

I would pay Dansby 10m x 3 without blinking.

Is that controversial?

I’ve never been a Dansby stan (A Stansby?) but I think I’d probably give him $10Mx3, and throw in a lifetime supply of shampoo and conditioner, without having to think much about it.

Im with Hulio on this one. Never liked the twitchies in the box however, being he is overall slightly above average, just into his prime I think AA will have to think it will take somewhere close to 5/$80M to keep him around. OTOH Dansby will have to show a bit more consistency with the bat next year to claim that much.
