Braves acquire No. 35 pick in MLB Draft for Drew Waters and more

Grissom is older than Harris…

Folks may want to pump the brakes a bit on the guy.

It was such a small sample size but him killing A+ last year was impressive. You could easily have made an argument he deserved to start the year in AA this year.

Any chance we see Grissom at 3b? I love to read into coincidences, and Alexander was traded the same time Grissom gets promoted

Again this a great trade. Waters is a 40+ FV with a falling stock. Braves are likely to pick another 40+ player at this spot who has actual upside.

Grissom should be playing both corner OF positions on a semi-regular basis moving forward.

Always support flexibility. If we re-sign Dansby then our only position of need will be corner OF. But I also like that Grissom gives the Braves a legit threat for Dansby's agent that the Braves will go elsewhere at SS.

Malloy wasn't playing 3B when he was in Rome - almost strictly a 1B/DH guy it seems - putting a TON of pressure on his bat.

Interesting. He was listed as a 3B.

I still think Grissom should be worked out in the OF is we're going to try to gain some flexibility with him. Riley has third nailed down for a little bit.

Pretty sure Malloy started playing some LF in Rome at the very end too. Doesn’t sound like he can handle 3rd professionally

He had 51 games at 3B in Rome this year, versus 17 at DH, 0 at 1B, and 3 in LF. Those latter three games were all in the past week, and were seemingly a prelude to his promotion; it's quite possible they'd planned to promote him, but didn't know whether Alexander (a much better defensive 3B) would still be on Mississippi's roster.

So, while there are questions as to Malloy's long-term viability at the hot-corner, he had been Rome's primary third basemen this year all season.

Yeah wasn’t sure where the 1B was coming from. I had heard that may have to go to first as a last resort but didn’t think he had actually been playing first at all yet, just DH.

Grissom's age doesn't concern me at this point. It's not like he's 24 and just reaching AA, he's 21. Riley was 22 when he reached the majors and wasn't good until he was 24.

Grissom also missed a year with the pandemic. Without Covid he probably gets to AA last year.

I'm not saying he's a sure thing superstar but there's no reason to be down on the guy because of age. He's shown some decent power, a good ability to get on base, and good speed and he's on a perfectly normal development curve.

The big questions for Grissom have been in-game power and long-term defensive home.

In 2022, he's shown he can get to that power more without sacrificing his sophisticated approach to the strike-zone. Long-term defensive home is still TBD, though—so I understand a bit of skepticism—but he still feels more like a 45+, if not 50, versus the straight 45 that FG dropped on him. He might be older than Harris, but it's not like he's age-challenged relative to his level. Either way, the remainder of 2022 in AA should tell us a lot.

If he can turn into a Zobrist-type player, that would be huge for the Braves. That's not quite the same as calling him the Heir Apparent to Lord Danbae just because he put up a .900 OPS in High-A.

I get it, but I really do think he's good. And I think he would be great in this line up b/c he's different than most of our guys.

Seems like everyone agrees he has a great approach and pitch recognition. He is a really high OBP guy. Really good hit tool. Question is if he'll get enough loft to get to a lot of in game power.

Most do think He's a 2B and not a SS, but some still have him at SS or even 3B.

Grissom hit better than Harris did per level and age. I think most think Grissom is a better hitter. It's just Harris was a stud on defense in a black hole of a position on a team trying to win the WS. I'm not sold Harris is this good a hitter at MLB either. But I think Grissom will be a better hitter than Harris in the long run. He'll have to be b/c he likely isn't playing CF, SS or C where the offensive bar is low.

join me in the crazy.

2024. Ozzie to SS (only hits RH), Grissom to 2B in a Harris-like jump, Judge to LF and Braves to the WS.

Grissom is now the top prospect in the system after Harris and Strider graduated, so obviously folks around here are going to overrate him...he's #1!

If he turns into a poor man's Zobrist that's still very useful...if Snit can figure out how to deploy him, which certainly isn't a given. Problem is, those types of players are available as FAs every single year for a few million bucks, which is pocket change to the Braves, so hopefully he turns into more.

Since he's all we have to follow now that the system is terrible folks will talk him up in this Braves echo chamber though.

I don't know En..before the deletion of ok prospects. I championed him early. I whiffed on Pache so what do I know? Lol. I like his hit tool more than most...we will see. De facto number one now though.

Guys take off all the time. Maybe Grissom is what everyone thought Shewmake was. Unlike waters, as long as a kid can actually hit a baseball he has a chance. It’s when you hear “if he can learn how to make contact” that you an almost always write a kid off.

Amazingly Riley learned somehow.

Went from being the worst in MLB and most whiffed swings.

I'd have no problem if Grissom was what we hoped Shewmake was going to be. I'd love to have someone who can play all over the field that can actually hit his weight.
