Braves are savlaging a salary dump (FG article on Maybin's resurgence)

I think it's a reasonable argument that Cahill isn't stopping us from taking on CJ's money while trading him away. If we didn't take on Cahill we'd have more money to use this year, sure. But it isn't necessarily stopping us from anything.

Of course we still have the means to do it... but wouldn't you have rather used the dead money on Cahill to move the dead contract of CJ? Instead, we'll have to use "live" money (probably out of 2016 budget) that could have gone to improving the roster

Again, you have NO idea if this is how ownership operates, and I'm not sure any team operates this way. And you're still dealing in complete hypothetical. You'd need to find a team that wants CJ.

OK - sorry for discussing and not agreeing with everything the team did. I'll learn

dude, what are you talking about?
you say things like "we could have used that money next year" when you have absolutely no idea that this is the case, and all indications ever say it isn't the case. I didn't say you had to agree with the Cahill move. You're not really discussing. You're saying stuff that has no basis whatsoever and then resorting to what you said above after it's challenged.
In hindsight yes, I'd have rather not brought Cahill in at all. Things aren't done in hindsight though.

lmao you guys are great.

is saying "I don't think we could use excess money this year on the budget next year" saying he can't disagree with me, or the organization?

What Sturg is saying is the Braves could have used that money to pay down CJ's contract in order to help move him. The organization COULD have done that without being super creative with their books. To sturg's credit he maintained that opinion from the beginning.

I liked the Cahill move when it was made. It didn't work out. It's not a big deal. I don't think Sturg deserves for you to talk down to him in your typical condescending posts.

OKAY. I know what he is saying. And someone responded saying "that move isn't stopping us from eating the money for moving CJ this year" (which I don't think it necessarily is, either) and sturg responded by saying "wow it amazes me that so many people don't get it." Then he said we could have used that Cahill money for next year, which I don't think is the case. Do you believe we could have pushed the Cahill money to next year's cap? Because that's what I challenged, and apparently it's a crazy thing to debate.

Not sure how you justify trading Cam unless someone absolutely blows you away at this point.

Joe and Chip have made some pretty good points about the "type" of players the Johns have been going after in trades, and Cam is probably the perfect poster child for those - someone getting their chance and taking full advantage of it.

Maybin has been absolutely dreadful the second half. If we can sell high, we should do it. If not, we should start platooning him.

A Bourn/Maybin platoon in LF next year wouldn't be so bad.

SSS, but Eury Perez has very similar career numbers to Maybin's against RHP, and he's likely no worse defensively in CF.

I'd also be very open to finding a platoon partner for Jace Peterson next year (ducks tomato).

Maybin is hitting lefties this year, so that's what I had in mind for him to help Bourn with. Whatever keeps them both out of CF as much as possible.
