Braves extent Ozzie!

Braves announced it on their twitter account.

Wow. I don't even know what to say. I honestly feel a little bad for Ozzie and Ronald. I mean they still are making some nice guaranteed money, but both guys potentially gave up 100+ million and all of their prime years.

These deals can help the Braves sign a big time free agent, Encheff will laugh. But they are laughably team friendly.

These deals allow the Braves to shop in the aisle just below the $300M Harper/Machado level.

Think in terms of Rendon at 3B for ~5 years.

So Braves guarantee him through age 28, get two club options, and max him out at 7M? Is that right? Coming off a 3.8 WAR season?

No because the 7/35 includes one buyout at 4 million.

Ahh gotcha. So it's essentially 8/39 and then we can give him another 3 million in picking up his option which would put it at 8/42 and then have the option the following year for buying him out for 4 million or giving him 7 million to stay.

To put this into perspective. Eloy got 6/43 while never playing a game in the majors. Albies got 7/35 after 3.8 WAR season

I assumed the Nats would announce Rendon's extension shortly after dropping out of Harper market. The numbers batted around seemed extremely reasonable. Not sure why they haven't done it. I still sort of doubt he makes it to free agency.

Yeah not, in on the Harpers/Machados, but next tier.

Rendon would be a perfect signing. He's so ****ing good.

I believe his agent is Boras. There is a self selection thing there. Players who select Boras want a certain type of representation.

So is Ozzie now the most valuable asset in baseball? A 3-4 WAR (may be better) player controlled for 9 years at a max of 45 million?

So think about this for a second...

At some point the Braves are going to have to decide if an Ozzie Albies in his late 20s is worth an additional $3M for a season.

Is there any possible way, short of death or dismemberment, that he won't be worth $3M for a season? Even as a backup?
