Braves in on Yasmany Tomas

Why was that the fluke? I think last year was the fluke.

Last 5 years:

91 wins
89 wins
94 wins
96 wins
79 wins

Which one seems like the fluke to you?

Astros have one less playoff win in that same time and probably have 150 less regular season wins.

I think it boils down to whether one believes the team overachieved in 2013 or underachieved in 2014. I had them pegged to be mid-80 win teams on the cusp of the playoffs in both years. I was pleasantly surprised in 2013 and disappointed in 2014. It can't all be on Gonzalez.

We werent as good as 2013 but not as bad as last year.

Still a very flawed team.

Well....

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that Yasmany Tomas is mulling over offers from at least the Diamondbacks, Braves, Padres, and Giants.
Details of each offer aren't clear, but Sanchez writes that the Padres aren't believed to have the highest offer. Once considered a front-runner, the Phillies aren't on Sanchez's list of confirmed offers, but the club remains interested in signing him. Tomas was originally expected to seek a five- to six-year deal at $15 million per season, but he's also apparently open to a shorter deal which will allow him to hit free agency in his late-20s. Tomas just turned 24 this month. There's no reported timeline for a decision and he's currently considering attending next month's Winter Meetings.

Seems like a team that peaked and then declined. 2014 and 2013 teams were very different.

You seem to think you can have post-season success without having regular season success.

Yes you need success in the regular season to have a chance at playoff baseball. We all understand that. You can hang your hat on regular season accolades, but when the team consistently doesn't advance in October you have a mediocre season. Couple that with the fact that they aren't even a perennial playoff team either.

Damn - think I would've signed up for that if I was Atlanta

I am sure we will hear more details in the next few days and so forth.

But wow if the Braves couldn't pony up this money. Says a lot about the direction the team is heading.
