At what point does Hart take all this money he now has and address an offense that he has largely gutted?
Next winter would be a guess.

Then what do you do with the magical money? Find another reliever in his late 30s? Sign a "veteran 5th starter type" when Hale could do the job for way less?
If you're going to spend it, spend it on a real NEED.
I'd make a splash on the international stage. This team can completely change the way they are viewed with the fanbase if they go all out on Moncada.
My guess is he's the right player at the wrong time. Or something weak like that.
The veteran leadership angle is the one that makes the most sense in justifying the Grilli signing.
We're paying a guaranteed 8M over two years for a projected 1 win over the two-year period. That's not good bang for the buck. Especially considering we have similar alternatives who are much cheaper: Varvaro (before release), Hale, Shreve, Jaime, Viz, Kohn, Harper etc etc.
But a veteran like Grilli could be a positive influence on the young pups and justify his salary in ways not apparent in his individual statistical line. Ditto Jim Johnson.
We had nearly 20 mil to play with, should Hart of sat on that money and done nothing with it?
My Dad always says, "Don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket."
I can think of a couple guys to whom they could have given $20 million ...
