Braves to acquire Brandon Phillips

Brandon Phillips would be the only Reds player in the deal.

I wouldn't expect a huge return in this deal for the Reds. More about clearing a logjam.

Sucks about Rodriguez. Terrible luck.

As for Phillips, I'd just as soon put Albies at 2nd after May, and check out a Garcia/Ruiz platoon at 3rd.

If it wasn't for this new revelation on Rodriguez's injury, we're likely not talking about this likely deal.

Big thing for me was the money. Looks like the Reds will pay the majority of the $14M he's owed. That makes this a better deal from the Braves perspective.

Possible mid-season trade piece? Bring Albies up in July. Send BP to a contender, which perhaps is what the Braves have promised him for him to agree to this trade.

The only thing that bugs me about this is, once again the Braves played fast and loose with the facts about an injury. It was reported with full confidence that Rodriguez was not injured in the crash. You know good and well that they knew he was hurt, but needed to confirm the specifics.

Think about the Carolina bus crash. None of those injuries, including a couple that proved to be career-enders, were ever reported.

Apparently the Braves didn't find out the seriousness of Rodriquez's injury until Friday.
