Braves trade David Hale and Gus Schlosser for...

How can you not like this move?

First off....Schlosser absolute garbage, no loss there...and the O'Dowd acquisition is nothing more than a filler material type move. I'm sure it's more to ado with the Hart-ODowd connection and the Rockies wanting to purge him from their organization much like we did with Wren and his kid.

But we traded a back end of the rotation guy, or a swing man, that would have great value for a contending team with his cost control status in that role...but we are far away from that.....and acquired a guy that could develop, and I like what I've seen so far, into a viable everyday catcher that has some upside defensively and definately upside offensively. Could be the next Javy Lopez.

Guys like Hale grow on trees within our organization, even with the pathetic scouting staff we've had recently...and we got much higher upside arms in our arsenal at this point going forward.

BTW, I noted that this kid Jose Briceno has a .969 OPS at home but hit terrible on the road. As noted, Briceno played his home games in a very hitter friendly environment.

This team is going to be awful in 2015. I hope there is a Strasburg/Harper stud the Braves can draft with the first pick in the draft!

I doubt we'll pick #1, even if we did, we arent lucky like the Nats to get two generational talents.

No one is acting like that. As usual, you are exaggerating.

Oh you just knew he's come in with his usual nonsense. It is either Trout extremes if talking about a hitter (namely Heyward) or Kershaw extremes if talking about a pitcher with him.

David Hale was a long reliever at best. I can understand not being flattered with the return, but he's the type of guy you non-tender as soon as he hits arbitration or once his ERA reflects his metrics.

Yeah, and he wasn't young for his league. This kid will most likely be a no-hit all field catcher which isn't the worst thing but just not sure the value was right.

Hale is 27, and replaceable.

He's not bad but trading him for a potential everyday C is a fine move.

Even if Brisco busts, it does no harm, we're stocked with young pitching for the forseeable, no big loss here at all.

Oh, for sure. He's made some moves that will do wonders for morale around here, though I'm pretty sure it's just going to add fuel to the fire we're using to roast our morals.

I'm sautéing mine.

Yeah, for me it was a value question. Not upset to see Hale gone.

People really don't understand why Hart made this trade? This is clearly a move to strengthen a quantitatively weak position in the organization. I think value wise it's a pretty even deal. We have tons of mediocre options for the #5 spot in the rotation. Losing one of those guys in a year we likely won't compete anyway doesn't bother me in the slightest. Dealing from a strength to improve a weakness is exactly the type of move Wren should make.

Because trading Hale who would be lucky to make the rotation is such an awful move.

Please.

No risk in this move at all.

Between Wandy, Manny, Stults and Fulty, there is plenty for the 5th spot in the rotation.

The Braves produce David Hales all the time.

We dont have much catcher depth at all, especially if CB flops.

As usual, you and others simply dont like the new guys in the front office, and complain about every move they make.

Did you just wake up from a 4 month nap?

Hale's just a guy. Those have value, but a team in our position should be trading low-ceiling fifth starter/swing man types for lottery tickets.

Besides, with all the deals we've made this off-season to bring in pitching, and with the organization's laser lock focus on arms, if we can't routinely generate guys who are as good as David Hale we have much, much bigger issues than one specific trade.

Fair analysis. Again, I'm not upset about losing Hale. Just hope we got good value.
