Rosenthal mentioned today that Toronto might think about trading Emilio Bonaficio, how about him as Pena's replacement and I like Brett Cecil too.

I actually almost put Emilio on the list but he bats RH. We have plenty of RH bats off the bench. We really need a decent Lefty bat.

I would be surprised if they trade Cecil. But they could feel he would be a good guy to sell high on

Bonafacio is a switch hitter

Yea, Bonafacio makes sense for us despite not being very good defensively. The speed he brings and ability to play so many positions (including second, short, third and outfield) makes him a useful back-up player. Plus it's no secret the Braves have wanted him in the past and even looked into picking him up this past spring (according to one report).

BTW, I would personally prefer us to get Logan Forsythe and Joe Thatcher from the Padres. Forsythe is better defensively than Bonafacio and can play just as many positions (including shortstop). Thatcher is a solid lefty for the pen.

Problem with Forsythe is, he's a right handed hitter and that's not what they're looking for off the bench, they're looking for someone who hits from the leftside.

It does no good to get a left handed hitter if he's less a hitter (and cannot play short or third well enough). So while Forsythe isn't left handed, he seems the best option defensively (and a better hitter than the other options). He also has the potential to do a lot more offensively, IMO. Which makes him a potential replacement for CJ or Uggla down the road.

As much as I think people on this board overrate him, how 'bout kelly johnson? The price is right, and you can keep janish as the backup shortstop...
