Braves trade for Chris Sale - Grissom going to Red Sox (Extension through 26 at 18M)

Possibly. But the Nola offer makes me think otherwise. AA really set us up nicely for 2024 and beyond. The bullpen is flat out nasty.

What if…

They got Sale for $500k so they can afford a run at Hader.

I know that’s getting greedy to homerific levels, but nothing would surprise me anymore.

Honestly rather have Sale for Grissom than what the Dodgers paid for Glasnow

The Dodgers created another hole in their rotation to get Glasnow, while AA gave up a guy who would never have a role in this team.

I too prefer the Sale trade than the Glasnow trade, especially considering the cash sent to Atlanta.

Chris Sale is the next Cole Hamels and Dallas Keuchel.

Chris Sale don’t worth Vaughn Grissom…

That’s definitely the floor for Sale, but the ceiling is much higher than those guys.

Best likely scenario is Sale pitches 100 innings then dominates 1 game in every round of the playoffs.

Anthopoulos is serious that the Braves don’t care about the CBT, just the real dollars: Sale only adds $500k to the real payroll in 2024, but pushes them into third-tier CBT territory.

Minter is a FA after next year so who knows. We have a ton of lefties but Hader would be the best of em all. If a SP fell during the playoffs that BP would have no problem throwing a strong game from innings 1-9.

No doubt there are health concerns… but he showed himself healthy and strong to end the year. When healthy, he’s a strikeout pitcher who’s a difference maker. Manage him to have him at his best for the playoffs and you have a weapon. Pretty low price to pay for a potential difference maker. Outisde of TJS, his injuries have been a bit fluky… some shoulder inflammation this year which is a bit concerning but he came back the strongest after he rehabbed it.

If Chris Sale is a number 5 in our rotation is perfect. I believe AA want to have 1 healthy between Morton and Sale for the playoffs.

In my opinion we still need a number 3.

Number 3
Keep Elder between AAA and MLB to give extra rest to Morton and Sale.
Morton
Sale

Question becomes how many pitchers are we going to keep on roster if that happens.

If we were going to take a chance on a formerly top-flight pitcher who hasn’t been healthy since 2019, shouldn’t we have just kept Soroka?

I kid, I kid.
