Braves trade for more slot money from the Dodgers.

Why in the world would you wait until AFTER you signed players over your pool amount to start making these trades? Now every team knows the Braves need extra pool money and can make them give better prospects in exchange.

Because I'm guessing these trades were already worked out considering we've likely had deals in place with Cruz and Pache for months.

It would explain why Paroubeck did not play at all. He should have started in Rome.

Meh, doesnt seem like much.

One more trade: Dodgers dealt their final international slot, No. 87 ($249,000) to the Braves for RHP Caleb Dirks & OF Jordan Paroubeck

That's all we got for two good prospects? Martin brought more than that. I know we need to money I just thought we'd get that much without giving up as much as we did in this trade.

Martin is much more of a sure thing then those kids. Martin has obviously gotten big leaguers out already.

Hmm. I was expecting Paroubeck to have more value than this. Isn't he the type of high upside player we're trying to acquire? Braves must not have liked what they saw in extended Spring Training.

I was looking forward to seeing him with us, that is partly why this trade disappointed me a bit. Oh well.

I would have liked to follow him as well but if its all to get this kid who is being compared to Juan Gonzalez then I'm fine with it.

I think the move has very little to do with Jordan.

It makes me wonder if we got the Uribe trade the way we did by agreeing to give up more in this trade.

That's an interesting thought. Wouldn't rule it out. I just would have guessed that Paroubeck was (a) more valuable than this, and (b) right up the Braves alley as far as risk / reward.

He was intriguing, but he's 20 and still hasn't played past rookie ball. He has solid tools but can't even really be called a prospect yet. Martin would be ranked pretty well ahead of Paroubeck on any list right now.

So if we can't get below the international FA cap does that take us out on Maitan or just limit who else we can sign? This was a lot to give up of that's the case...

It would take us out of the running for just about anybody good next year. But it's not going to happen. We're not risking next year for Pache this year. I guarantee we already have the deals worked out. It's not as though the FO is now scrambling to come up with the money we've known for months we would be spending.

Agreed. This is the biggest reason they brought Gordon Blakeley on board.

I rather do that than give up prospects I like. Though I would hope either of them bring a bit more.

Eh, what are they gonna bring back?

I'll take the extra slot money if they can sign Maita sp?

We won't have to trade either one for slot money. We can always throw some other guys out there, like Edgerton, Janas, etc. We may not even have to throw out anybody that good.

Grilli and Johnson could net us something quite a bit better.

I would hope Grilli or JJ could bring back more than a lottery ticket low A OF.

JJ is a rental so I wouldn't expect a lot and while Grilli has been good I'd expect him to decline in the future so I'd trade him this year. I don't see either bringing back that much but I hope I'm wrong. Further, if I am an AL team I'd be less inclined to pick up Johnson.
