Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

A minimum of due diligence would have included Hart or Coppy picking up the phone and having a chat with Heyward's agent before doing this. A minimum. Their not doing that is a disgrace and professional incompetence.

Hate to call anyone in particular out, but you seem to be the one throwing the sternest criticisms at the brass, so I ask you - and everyone else crying foul...

Can you provide anyone with concrete "proof" that the front office didn't make an effort to get Heyward to agree to a reasonable extension that wasn't based on him being a 25+ HR bat while maintaining his defensive excellence AND suddenly becoming a capable hitter against LHPs?

The "evidence" everyone keeps pointing to is that Jason says they didn't discuss an extension - the evidence we KNOW is true is that the organization wasn't willing to accommodate his agent's demands for anything longer than 2 years when they talked last winter.

I've seen absolutely nothing that makes me think they didn't call Casey Close and make him completely aware that he had done nothing to make them pay him based on "potential", and that if they felt that's where his value lies they needed to move forward for the organization as a whole.

When Heyward signed the 2 year extension, do you actually think the topic of a longer deal never came up? Come on, man.

Yes.

That's exactly what I think happened, because that's what Jason Heyward said happened.

The notion that Jason is 'lying' because he is worried about being publicly perceived as money hungry is among the most ludicrous insinuations I've read today (and that's saying a hell of a lot, really).

Heyward said it came up for 10 minutes. Hart wasn't even there, so I believe Heyward.

So you don't think a 10 minute conversation gave the organization insight on how much money he wanted long term? Really? I wouldn't think it would take much more than 2 minutes.

According to this organization, Wren was a horrible asshole who was terrible to work with. So why let him have the last word with regard to a Heyward extension?

Then you're even more delusional than I originally thought as far as it never came up... and Heyward did say it came up. Like a said to Dayln... how much more than 10 minutes does it take to get a feel for how much money a player wants long term? It shouldn't take that long... if the two aren't on the same page, I definitely wouldn't expect it to take longer.

You are grasping at straws.

Lol... yes thinking other team management wouldn't be involved in contract talks is really grasping at straws... especially when someone like JS is the president of baseball operations... you just don't want to hear any other possibilities other than what you've got worked up in your head.

Reading all of Heyward's comments… he seems sincerely hurt about all of this. I tend to believe he wanted to stay and the Braves just weren't interested. Mind boggling.

John Hart is a POS. Good thing we have an interim GM to blow everything up. He didn't seem like he even wanted the job, so maybe he's just trying to get fired.

Funny, braves complain about JD Drew trade for 10 years then cry when we make the same deal but on the other side. If McDowell can improve Miller's change up he is going to be a top of the rotation starter. Jenkins dominated the hitter friendly AFL and has just as high upside as Wainwright had.

JD Drew actually had better years under his belt than Heyward as well.

Who was in the room is immaterial. Hart could've possibly even been there for all we know, because he was with the organization at the beginning of last season. I fail to see your point.

My point is that those conversations took place almost a year ago. Nothing since.

I would be singing a much different tune if Heyward/Close/Hart/Schuerholz spoke within the past month or two.

So you find it more likely that the braves just didn't want him than a player just wanting too much money? You sweet summer child.
