Braves trade LaStella

Why would anybody in their right mind complain about this move thinking we created a hole in the lineup. Do you think the team is done dealing? Amazing!

Yeah. We are pretty deep at middle infield. Plus having Viz opens up the possibility of including Walden or Carpenter in our next trade.

By the end of the winter meetings, I fully expect to see trades involving Johnson, Gattis, one or both Uptons and/or Heyward. Either Justin or Jason stays, though.

I'm torn on this trade. I loved Viz. I didn't like when we traded him away. That being said his recovery is troublesome. I think we're taking a big gamble on Peraza being able to perform this year. Otherwise we're screwed. Gosselin isn't a MLB starter. I just hope we offered the same thing with Gosselin and the Cubs laughed at us cause trading him over TLS would have made much more sense short term and long term. Hopefully we use the money wisely and get some kids worth a damn. No more Salcedo busts please.

Thanks for the explanations on the international bonus money nscapi and skillet. Really helped to clear up why the trade was made on both ends. Hard to grump about this trade. Braves get a chance to get a really good player on the international market with more competitive funds and a potential late inning relief guy. Plus they traded from a position of strength. I like LaStella but I think most of us figured Peraza was going to be the guy there in the long run.

I think it's starting to become very clear that the Braves are planning for 2017 and beyond. Whether we like it or not.

Plus it's not exactly going to be shocking if Peraza comes in next season and becomes a major factor for us.

I guess we have to bank on Arodys being back to where he can contribute without his arm falling off, but I think we could have gotten more.

Will wait and see how things unfold over the next month or so before I make up my mind on this.

How exactly is this punting?

Exactly, on a serious note I like this deal and I really liked LaStella....he's a nice role player that can hit a little, get on base, but not much speed and below average defensively.

If we were a championship type constructed team with above average to average players at every position, LaStella is a perfect compliment guy potentially as a starter or platoon guy....but our roster is far from that.

We got a high upside arm that hopefully can stay healthy and live up to his potential as he could be an elite late inning reliever, as well as more flexibility going forward to sign an impact international guy or a number of guys to create depth which we lack.
