Braves trade LaStella

I think it's starting to become very clear that the Braves are planning for 2017 and beyond. Whether we like it or not.

Agreed, that is also why Zito is off if he thinks we plan for Peraza to play much with us this coming season. The Braves will likely keep him down most of this coming season given the rebuild mode and bring him up in Sept (no matter how strong a spring he has with us). They may go more halfway in trying to make the playoffs in 2016 but they seem a lot more focused on 2017.

Note: I am not agreeing with this approach I am just saying that seems the direction IMO.

PS: I also disagree that CJ gets traded this off-season, I expect to see others to go including some if not all of the big names mentioned before him. When rebuilding a player like CJ coming off a terrible year just isn't a big priority to move given the direction whether we agree or disagree.

Why would anybody in their right mind complain about this move thinking we created a hole in the lineup. Do you think the team is done dealing? Amazing!

Some of us liked LaStella, and thought he could be a solid contributing piece—next year, at the very least—for the big-league Braves team. That's no reason to condescendingly post as if anyone with an assessment differing from your own shouldn't even both posting.

Plus it's not exactly going to be shocking if Peraza comes in next season and becomes a major factor for us.

Peraza is likely to start for us in 2016 but I do believe they're punting in 2015. This will be clear once the smoke clears and we see Gattis, Heyward and/or Justin all traded before next year's trade deadline (I expect at least two to go this off-season). We'll also be trading Walden and/or Carpenter pretty soon too and possibly others.

It's a weird trade at first glance but makes sense. I'm a big TLS fan and thought he would be better off packaged in a larger deal. But we all know the type of talent we got in Viz if healthy and the international money is big. TLS unfortunately has not room on this team with Peraza so close.

If they really are punting, with a plan return to competition in 2017, then keeping Chris Johnson certainly helps the Braves be a worse team in 2015–16.

True, that is why I don't see trading him as much a priority for this off-season as the big names coming up on free agency (and Gattis for other reasons). I also believe they'll try harder to trade BJ Upton that CJ, actually they already have, but may end up fine with keeping him for another year or so given the rebuild mode.

I definitely wouldn't be shocked if that happens.

If we're tearing down the place, then for the love of God, get Fredi the hell out of here.

Hart may be okay with Fredi staying around for the rebuild and just letting his contract expire after this coming season. If we are punting it as it seems then I reckon having Fredi as manager fits with that agenda.

I actually like the move. Getting a high leverage arm at the minimum is strong for TLS.

I don't hate this transaction solely on its own merits; what I don't like is the general trends, in the overall context of the transactions, news, and believable rumor so far.

I really think if it wasn't for Bobby Cox the Braves would have fired Fredi. I mean a punting in 2015 might be the best shot at getting Fredi fired in the end.

There is probably a lot of truth to this statement. Cox is clearly Fredi's biggest supporter and a big part of the good old boys club too.

Also, since bad contracts are among the key reasoning, and we're going probably going to suck with what's being talked about, just bring Uggla back until Peraza is ready. See what we can get for Gosselin.

I understand, but personally the Wren trade was worse because we simply gave away a decent prospect just because he is Frank Wren's son. That is not what a team trying to rebuild the minors should be doing. I find it hard to believe we couldn't of gotten something for him if not so focused on just dumping another Wren.

That said, hopefully Viz is finally healthy again because if he is then I like him. I am not sold though on what I saw this past season. He didn't look like the same Viz we had to me. But that doesn't rule out him making it all the way back.

I like this trade because La Stella was never going to get much of a chance from Fredi. Now he will get to start and become an average or better 2b.

I still like Vizcaino as a reliever. If he can get healthy he will be a big addition to the pen. The draft slots are a good sign they will be investing in the international market but I still don't see Moncada happening. That extra 850k would only save 850k if they signe him because everything past a certain amount is taxed at 100% rate. Hardly worth making a trade for.

Management already said Peraza will be given a shot to win the job in ST

My guess is Kyle Wren probably wasn't too thrilled about playing for an organization that canned and largely scapegoated his father for all of its issues.
