Braves trade Shreve and Carpenter for Manny Banuelos

Rasmus is the quintessential all or nothing hitter. GUy is about to fall off a cliff. Can't make consistent contact at all. If he qualified he would have been tied for 1st with the highest K rate. PASS!

High K rate with legit power. You said awful, I proved he's been better than Markakis, try harder to dig yourself out of your little corner there thethe.

There is zero reason to sign Markakis with what we are doing. Zero. That money could be put toward expediting BJ's removal if he doesn't bounce back. We lost Heyward and Upton and have replaced them with Markakis and a utility infielder. And Bethancourt, I suppose. That isn't going to make us competitive. Markakis and Shelby Miller don't make us contenders. See what you've got with your outfielders you already have and stop wasting that money.

That's right. Buy yourself something nice instead. Or take your wife out somewhere special like Shoney's or Ponderosa.

Braves need to remain somewhat competitive or else the park will be a ghost town. Those losses are going to be carried forward.

His K rate has gone up in the last three years. You take guys who swing for the fences that are getting close to 30. I'll take high contact guys. Rasmus is awful.

I hope it works. I hope trying to no suck in 2015 and 2016 doesn't give us another Uggla type issue in 2017 and 2018.

I can talk myself into a situation where the year is interesting. Tehran is Tehran. Wood continues what he's done. Miller is the pitcher he was projected to be. Minor goes back to being Minor. This guy gives us a good 3 or 4 level starter production out of the 5th spot. Hale is solid as an occasional swing guy. Bullpen arms give us power options and CK is CK. FF gets some more power. Gattis hits like he did last year before the DL and goes from un playable to awful in LF. CJ is more like his first year. Simmons is more like his first year at the plate. Any thing is better at 2B and CF than last year. Maybe Markakis gets on base and provides some vet leadership. Maybe Cuban guy is a starter. We win games 2-1, 3-2. Win maybe 85. Division beats up on each other and who knows.

I don't believe any of it, but it's possible.

Braves are not a wildcard team. Not even close. But, I think they could match last years win total while greatly improving the overall strength of the organization.

Wait. So do we argue over this trade too? LOL. I like it personally. Rather kept Shreve, but I think this definitely means we keep Russell...hope Avilan goes. QUICKLY.

Sooooo....Afraid of making the park a ghost town.....let's trade two of our most talented, most marketable players because we're afraid they might not re-sign.

They aren't going to be somewhat competitive, unless you mean competitive for 4th place. A 65-win team isn't going to draw much less than a 73-win team. Suck is suck.

I think we all like it. That's why we're arguing about something else. :icon_biggrin:

And his HR/FB has also gone up each of the last 3 years, it's not like he's BJing it up where he's striking out and not nhaving power. Would much rather have Rasmus for like like 2/18 than Markakis for 4/44.

Don't get how Rasmus, who's been better than Markakis is awful, but Markakis isn't.

I disagree in that I think there will be a lot of close games with more tough AB's. Even with a loss the fans can be entertained with that. You just can't bottom out in Atlanta. We all know how fickle the fans are there.

Because we've all seen what happens to low contact guys as they reach 30. You keep making that mistake. I'm glad the Braves aren't.

Well that settles it. Markakis is just going to straight up rake for four years because he's not a "low contact guy." He'll make us a competitive team. I suppose if we had kept Justin, we'd be a World Series contender.

I would rather have someoen not for 4/44 who's currently 31. If Rasmus sucks the next 2 years we're out under 20 millino, if Markakis sucks the next 4 we're out 44 million with another Dan Uggla situation.

The other issue with the low contact guys hitting 30, is that often they're big boys, like say Ryan Howard, big boys age poorly. We don't know what will happen with Rasmus, but would rather have 2/20 than 4/44

There might be close games for the first half. At that point, the top guys in the bullpen will be overworked and the pressure of only having one or two runs to play with will start getting to the team. Freeman, Markakis, and Gattis will put too much on themselves. The offense will get even worse and the tired bullpen will start giving up those late one-run leads. A.J., Johnson, and Pendleton will come to blows. BJ will also throw some but never connect. The clubhouse will collapse. Unfortunately, the decent first half will cost us a few slot positions in the draft.

I think attendance will be bad when we know we don't have a shot. Don't see how the difference between 80 wins and 70 wins is a game changer.

I think the Good Old Boys want a veteran presence b/c they believe in that. Numerous reports from last year that we lacked leadership. They think Markakis provides these things and he can hit in the top 2 in the line up. I don't agree, but it's not my job to know the ins and outs of this.

The years argument I understand. BJ was not a big guy and look at whats happened with him.

I just don't think Markakis is going to suck but we will all have a means to argue it if he does in the future. Look forward to it my friend.

Did the New Year's Monster eat everyone from the old board???

The sky was falling when we took on injury risks in Jenkins and Fried, but everyone loves Banuelos??? Hilarious!!!

On a serious note, this deal now drops Sims to #4 on our system's highest-ceiling list. Yes naysayers, we all KNOW that it may not ultimately work out, but if it does Hart & Company have QUICKLY compiled a stable full of arms that most franchises will salivate over - and they're not done yet. They can now target offense in any potential Kimbrel/Gattis/Minor deals, but insist on getting that extra developmental power arm included as a throw-in in any of them.

All players get worse as they age past 30. It's not just strike out guys.

However, I will say this. The Markakis signing is the most overblown bad move (I don't like it) I have ever seen. If he's our worst contract on the book By 2017 then I say we are in pretty good shape.
