Braves trade Shreve and Carpenter for Manny Banuelos

BTW, I wonder if trading Shreve takes Avilan off the table as the Braves had been shopping him. It really shouldn't if we get a good offer IMO.

Most likely scenario is this guy gets a shot at 5th starter. Braves play it conservative and send him down. And look to bring him up later in the year. Use Hale or a 1 yr vet in the interim.

From a trade fantasy point of view this really puts us in a better space to trade Minor. Minor could have a great early season and build value up. Then at deadline or end of the year you have a good SP with some control.

You'd have Jenkins, Sims, and Banuelos as options who could be ready second half of the year to 2016.

Point being that maybe Minor gets us some offense????

Regardless of if some of you like the trades or not....we now have an impressive stock of high upside SP's in the minors in Sims, Fried, Jenkins, Banuelos along with 4 very good young SP's in the majors already. Time to get some bats.

I like the idea of this opening the door to getting rid of Minor. I think with his value where it is the best thing to do is wait until the deadline and hope he has a great first half.

I hope not. That would be a negative for this trade. Avilan needs to go.

This is the kind fo trade a rebuilding team would make. the problem is we did the dumb Markakis signing.

Yep. And played around bouncing between a rebuild and a retool and lost value on Upton. Lots of missteps recently, and it makes it really hard to trust the judgment of the front office. But at least they got this one right (under the circumstances and all things considered).

Still don't see what was wrong with that signing. There is no reason to tank in baseball and there are no options on the farm for right field.

Sure there are. We could've finally figured out what Terd could do other than circle the bowl.

Agreed. As they say though, better late than never! Hopefully more good trades to come!

We could not be stuck with that money in 2017 and 18. We could put Terdo out there and see if he magically does something.

We could get a protected pick in the next draft and be able to sign a big free agent with our saved money and not lose a pick.

If Markakis was 2 yrs i don't think most would care.

I would've preferred Rasmus to Markakis, in the 'rebuilding' mold -- although that is water under the bridge.

I still don't see how we are going to win as many games as we won last year. If you think that, then you must think we are a 90 win team with Heyward and Justin.. right?

Terdo is not someone you clear a spot for. Just my opinion

I don't think he was suggesting doing so, I think he was more suggesting letting him and others battle it out to see what we have. Of course I am someone who believes Hunter is another one along with Joey T that deserves a long look this Spring.

Braves can't have a 60-70 win team. The fanbase is awful and will not show up leading to decreased revenues. That's not a situation the team can afford.

Nothing wrong with it at like 2/25, it's the 4/44 that I have a problem with. We're paying a lot of money for an old guy who will probably suck when we hope to be competitive.
