Whenever we get Solarte, will you go back and dig up my posts where I first mentioned him so I can brag about how smart I am? I was first on the Yangervis bandwagon lol.
Unfortunately, the search function no longer goes back past the db crash that happened a week or so ago. Or at least I haven’t taken the time to make it work.
It’s actually fortunate for a lot of people that posted a lot of stupid things I guess.

I’m an admitted prospect junkie and the best part of adding three players that are better than what we had, is that it was done without painful prospects being sent away. We didn’t scratch the farm.
Now today....may be significantly different but even so, I like Duvall’s acquisition enough.

I'm kind of "meh" about this trade. Duvall probably makes this team better but not a lot better. He's going to be taking ABs from Ender and I think Ender is a good bet to improve. He's had some terrible luck this year, especially against lefties. Considering the defensive drop we'll experience when Ender doesn't play, I'm not sure we're going to gain a whole lot.
Meanwhile, I feel like there's a good chance the Reds get the better end of this trade in the end. Wisler could be a decent starter if he can get a couple things figured out. Absent that I think his fastball/slider combo and good control would play well out of the pen. I think Sims could be turned into a decent reliever as well.
It wouldn't shock me to see one or both of Sims and Wisler eventually become late inning relievers.

Duvall is a proven power hitter. Back to back 30 plus home run season is not an accident. This season he isn’t going to meet that benchmark again and he’s really struggled this season as a whole. He’s a plus defender, has control, and has been healthy the last two seasons. It’s an upgrade to the bench and occasionally starting in the OF. He doesn’t hit lefties well at least not this season though.

I didn't get it at first... just assumed the big guy was a bad defender but he's not. Ender has been less than stellar vs. lefties and Duvall hits lefties well. His BABIP is 30-40 points lower than his career average and his walk rate is up with the k-rate being about the same. And he's actually a really good defender from what I'm looking at. So now against lefties we have a new big time power threat with Acuna in center... and ender slides back in for righties. The more and more I think about it, its very creative and coupled with one or two other moves could really strengthen our team. Not to mention he's still under a lot of control.

BABIP 30-40 points lower than his career norms... mostly bad luck. Walk rate up, K-rate around the same.

I think the acquisition of Duvall also gives Snitker the opportunity to give Markakis a day off every now and then. Duvall is a markedly better player than Tucker so it makes a move like that easier to do. The 3.5 years of control is also important because none of us know what Markakis' contract demands are going to look like during the off-season, so Duvall provides at least some insurance in the event he's too rich to keep.
Sims and Wisler may benefit from a change of scenery. They were clearly meat in the sandwich now with the young guys coming up behind them and the starters on the big club above them. Curious to see if Sims is anything more than a AAAA guy. Like others have said, I don't know why Cincinnati wants a couple of flyball pitchers in that park, but pitching coaches are notorious for believing that they can turn any kind of marble into an exact replica of Michelangelo's David.
