2014 lions cowboys playoff game. 3rd down PI called against Dallas. Penalty announced, ball was spotted. Then they changed their mind

Cost lions the game

Difference was you didn't have fans throw garbage on the field causing the delay during which the refs confered. That's what was so crazy. The fans throwing trash led directly to the call change.

Sure. And that's ridiculous. But at least in this circumstance, they got the call right. In the example I provided, they switched to the wrong call after announcing and spotting the ball. Never seen anything like it.

But last night was also unprecedented

Half or more of the PI calls are suspect. Once you've announced it just spot the ball and play on.

If it was up to me I'd make throwing trash on the field a 15 yard penalty to the offending team and it could be enforced either before the previous snap or after the play. So if you don't like a call, throwing stuff on the field will mean you just made whatever just happened worse.

The SEC "penalized" Texas. It was such a weak penalty that it was in truth a ringing endorsement of thee Texas fans behavior.

A $250K fine (Snapple money to Texas) and a requirement that they identify people who threw objects...and ban them...for the rest of the season.

This was a laughably weak punishment. After the refs reversed the call the SEC had the choice of either bringing the hammer down on Texas or endorsing this behavior. They chose the latter.

The only way the SEC actually deters this behavior is issuing a death penalty like punishment. Texas should have seen their alcohol sales in the stadium revoked until 2026. That would sting Texas and its fans.

Next, Texas should not be allowed to have fans in their stadium for their next game. This is what happens with British soccer teams. You go hooligan, you lose home crowds for games.

Finally I'd suspend Sarkesian for one or two games. Put the pressure on the programs to control their fans.

You do this and fans of other schools don't dare repeat what Texas did. As is, I'd be shocked if we don't see this happen again.

The pass interference was legitimately one of the worst calls I've ever seen. I'm glad they picked it up. And the TD had to be completely clear to overturn the call on the field. I think he got it, but it wasn't totally clear. So no overturn.

UGA has had plenty of calls go their way tonight, including the no call targeting call on the sideline that was clear targeting.

This is one of the weakest posts I've ever seen from you. It was absolutely BS even if it was a bad call (I do think it was a bad call). The penalty was already WALKED OFF AND THE BALL WAS SET after a brief conference. Then the bottles flew and the ESPN Skycast showed, without a doubt, the ref who threw the flag staring at the replay being shown on the screen as it was played over and over again as trash fans delayed the game. The afterwards explanation saying the call was overturned only after they conferred was absolute BS and horse****... considering they had ALREADY CONFERENCED AND WALKED THE PENALTY OFF AND SET THE BALL. The ref got scared like a little bitch is what happened. There is no excuse for that, bad call or not.

Also don't even try to tell me the TD wasn't completely clear... every single person in the booth was blown away by how bad that decision was. It doesn't get more clear. The only people trying to say it wasn't clear at the time were Texas fans.

With the current state of the game, I want Georgia to stop playing Georgia Tech. This is a game where Georgia rarely has anything to gain and a ton to lose. If Georgia had beat Kennesaw State today they'd be in the exact same position.

Tech, on the other hand, has this game circled on their schedule. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

There's literally zero reason for Georgia to plat Tech these days. Until college football gives them a reason, I say kill this game.

Shouldn’t have even been a competitive game.

Nope. Tech came out focused and Georgia didn't. Throw in Tech's gadget offense confusing Georgia's young secondary and it was a recipe for disaster.

I think Georgia's biggest problem right now is the coaching staff. Kirby is awesome but his assistants aren't. It's a problem successful programs often have. Other teams poach you best assistants but no one goes after the less stellar coaches on your staff. Over time you end up with mostly bad assistants. That's where Georgia's at.

Georgia is 10000% more talented than ga tech. You can’t argue against that.

Sometimes good teams come up short. I’m a ND fan. We lost to NIU.

Struggling against inferior teams has been a whole season thing for Georgia. This team came out ready to play twice, Clemson and Texas. Every other game they've slept walked through portions.

Good teams do that. Curious to see how ESPN tells the committee to vote on the playoff seeding. Its a tv show after all, and ESPN could only dream

To have ND vs Bama or ND for Ohio state on Friday since they’ll kill in the ratings since there’s no NFL game that night.

Georgia pulled it out. Next to last play of the game was a DIRTY hit by the Texas safety but a targeting flag was waived off. If that wasn't targeting then they need to rewrite the rule. Dude used his helmet as a weapon and went after the head of Georgia's QB. Is exactly the kind of hit that the rule was put in place to stop.

It was perfectly ruled and reviewed

It may have been correct based on the rule as written but that just means the rule needs to be changed. That kind of hit is what the rule tried to prevent. It was a tackle with violence that went beyond an ordinary tackle. It was a player using their helmet as a weapon.

It was dirty. It might not have violated the text of the rule but it certainly violated the spirit of the rule. They need to change the text to outlaw hits like that.
