DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

Braves signed LHP Atahualpa Severino to a minor league contract.

Severino spent last season in the minors between the Royals and Pirates, posting a solid 3.72 ERA and 48/13 K/BB ratio over 46 innings while holding left-handed batters to a .171/.234/.271 batting line. The 29-year-old could be a savvy pickup for Atlanta.

Wren is piecing together a very promising bullpen on the uber cheap.

He's been the best at doing it, IMO, over the last several years. Keep finding that hidden value. I bet this Severino eventually comes in and shuts down some lefties.

I remember him from watching him with the Nats in '11 (only six games). I hadn't really payed attention to him since then. But I recall that righties hit him well while lefties only hit just over .200 against him (small sample size of course). As Eddy notes, he is still dominating lefties so looks like he could be a very solid lefty specialist. He's certainly a good depth minor league signing.

I still want to see what Ryan Butcher can do. Anytime you can consistently hit mid 90s with a wipeout slider from the left side I would like to see what he can do against ML hitters.

Now that he's on the 40-man he'll surely get his shot this spring. If he can get his walks in check he could make the team too.

Let me ask this. What are the odds of us winning the WS with the current team? And what would the odds be of winning it if we traded Wood/Sims/Peraza/Bethancourt for Price?

I'd put our current odds around 20/1. If we add Price, I'd say we are the favorites in the NL and I'd put us at 7/1.

@ajcbraves: #Braves agreed to terms with 3B Chris Johnson, avoiding arb.

@ajcbraves: #Braves C. Johnson gets $4.75 million for 2014

Offseason is heating up and getting busy.

Now Frank has his math calculated to add David Price's arbitration salary for this year's budget. :cooter:
