DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm starting to get alarmed that I haven't seen any BSOML articles or where Gattis, BJ, and Dan have all refined their approach all winter pieces.

I don't know about you but I thought Gattis's approach at times was very impressive and then at other times was awful, but overall pretty good and much better than I expected it to be.

Gattis needs to learn from more patient hitters. He swings at too many bad pitches.

I don't disagree with that. But at times his approach was impressive, in that he was patient and was willing to go to RF when he needed too. I thought overall for a rookie his approach was well, especially considering that he wasn't an everyday player.

Hey, if roids would bump BJ and Owl's average 100 points each, I'll buy a plane full and send them to Kissimmee.

Of course, Dan might need a cleanse rather than another cycle. I'd better run that by Tony Bosch.

a win win situation

if they don't get caught, they improve

if they get caught, we don't have to pay them

Didn't the Padres give Owings a chance to make their team last year as a hitter? How'd that work out? *honest question, not sarcasm*

He isn't a good enough hitter OR pitcher.
And he's returned to pitching.
The suggestions made on this board are hilarious.

Part of the problem is his late transition to hitting. but he wasn't that bad last year. He hit pretty well in Syracuse. If Owings wanted to extend his major league career he would have made the switch years before but he wasn't bad enough as a pitcher to try the switch like say Ankiel was.

I really don't care why he isn't good, he is not a ML pitcher or hitter. Every move wren made was better than singing owings. Everyone in the MLB has "some talent."

Owings would have been about as fair of a gamble as Gamel. Now am I crying in my cherrios because we didn't sign Owings? No, I think not getting Maholm and a minor league deal was a bigger mistake (would much rather have him than Freddy) and I think we could have a mistake if we let Martinez go somewhere on a minor league deal though that one is tricky because he is coming off shoulder surgery so he may amount to nothing.

This is one of the worst Braves offseasons in recent memory. Very little to like about it. Freeman deal. Heyward deal, I suppose--better than them fighting it out over 300k. Every hole on the team at the end of 2013 is still there. That's terrible.

Well, at least there'll be a little less bitching when a player poses after he hits a home run.

But yeah, terrible offseason.

Agreed: in the realm of minor-league deals, I'd rather the Braves have Malholm on one than Freddy Garcia on one.

Also: in the realm of major-league deals, I'd rather the Braves have Malholm on one than Fredi Gonzalez on one.

Lol at "terrible offseason." This team is Choc full of young talent that keeps improving. This is how some teams build. There simply was not much room for improvement or big moves to be made. Baffles me to no end how people cannot comprehend that.

The Braves were never going to make a lot of moves this offseason. They just didn't have the flexibility to go out and make a bunch of moves. That's one of the things that comes with fielding a very young team, your biggest improvement will be seeing the young players continue to improve and not regress. There's absolutely no reason to think the Braves can't repeat the regular season they had in 2013 again in 2014.
