DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

What is the slot value of the pick? That's what they would lose in their pool if he didn't sign.... although I think he will.

The Red Sox have been assigned a pool of $6,997,400, which ranks 22nd in the Majors. The value assigned to Boston's first-round pick is $3,192,800.

Hilarious people thought Groome could still slip to us. Our draft strategy is screwed. Better chance of Anderson slipping to 40.

2020 would be aggressive. 2021 or 2022 would be more realistic.

Crud, I was way too optimistic I guess. I was thinking Rookie ball this year once he signs. Then Low-A in 2017. High-A in 2018. AA / AAA with a probable call-up in late 2019 for the play-offs. Haha. Oh well.

You've got to read everything you can about these guys -- not just the stuff that supports your position. We know why he wasn't higher earlier -- he was sick, he was in bad New York weather -- the last month, he was arguably the most effective high school pitcher. Doesn't mean he's top 10 -- it means he COULD be.

Then why is he signing way under slot? If the Braves legit see him as the best pitcher in the draft (I done but that spin for one second), then why wasn't this kid demanding top of the draft money to not go to Vandy?

We drafted a guy we knew wasn't really a top of the draft kind of guy in hopes of affording a steal at 40. All the stuff of him being our top pitcher is spin.

You're not wrong, that could very well be his trajectory. He could potentially even get up by 2019, you never know.

Wow, that's really high for Benson.

I'm definitely interested to see who we target. But I'm not bummed, I was never that high on Benson.
