“What is fascinating is the philosophy behind the figures. Mr Milei is often wrongly lumped in with populist leaders such as Mr Trump, the hard right in France and Germany, or Viktor Orban in Hungary. In fact he comes from a different tradition. A true believer in open markets and individual liberty, he has a quasi-religious zeal for economic freedom, a hatred of socialism and, as he told us in an interview this week, “infinite” contempt for the state.

Instead of industrial policy and tariffs, he promotes trade with private firms that do not interfere in Argentina’s domestic affairs, including Chinese ones. He is a small-state Republican who admires Margaret Thatcher—a messianic example of an endangered species. His poll ratings are rising and, at this point in his term, he is more popular in Argentina than his recent predecessors were.”

Yes I’m sure this is based on super reliable data.

These people will not be needed in less than five years. We can make do in the interim.

Here's another brilliant thethe prediction. in 5 years farming and low skilled labor will be replaced.

And in 20 years when his successors gut the economy of any industrial/manufacturing base (because you know “free markets”) and become 100% reliant on China a trump will come along and fix the country.

So you think Milei is bad for Argentina long term?

So you think Milei is bad for Argentina long term?

No - I believe that any belief that fails basic pragmatism will fail long term. At this stage in argentinas lifecycle all out libertarianism is needed. Milei is fantastic for Argentina - RIGHT NOW.

No the line of

What he's doing will lead to Chinese slave labor and will need to be undone in 20 years,

And

He's doing the right thing

I’m aware that context escapes you. Milei is a response to a system that requires massive libertarian change. That will not be the case in five years.
