Ferguson....

Rumor is today is the day the grand jury comes back.

I hope this doesn't get ugly. If it does get ugly I hope the instigators will be held responsible.

He's gonna get off because there isn't enough evidence to convict a cop. So I hope people stick to peaceful protests. Looting does no one any good.

If a civilian fired on an unarmed civilian in the streets from a distance in most states, he'd be charged with something. Maybe not murder 2, maybe manslaughter, maybe something else. He/She wouldn't get off before the Grand Jury, that's for sure. Cops have to be outright caught on camera ****ing up in order to have anything happen to them and even then it's not at the standard that's set for civilians. Basically we treat our cops not as peacekeepers, but as soldiers of the law.

Or its sometthing where the evidence states it was clearly self defense. Either way you want to look at it.

Even if he's charging at you, that's not usually enough for self defense. in most states in public your life has to be in imminent danger and someone far enough away like that I don't think you make that case strong enough to get out before Grand Jury. Now if he was armed then yes you'd have a point. If someone fired at you while running away though and you turned and charge I'd guess that's a slam dunk murder 2.

Well I have no clue what evidence has been presented but if the conclusive evidence is that Brown charged and then pushed him into hte car while reaching for his gun then I think a case for self-defense can easily be made. But, until we know what the facts are then its all speculation.

Well I've never heard that one brought up by anyone. Including the Wilson's himself. IIRC his story was brown reached for his gun in the car it went off. He exited the car after Brown ran away, Brown turned around inexplicably and charged and that was when Wilson dropped him. No where have I read that Brown pushed him into the car after charging him.

Because you only read those crappy liberal blogs to get info on the case.

I do think that there is a difference in terms of a cop shooting someone and a regular citizen. The cop has no duty to retreat and is expected to engage law breakers or those acting suspiciously. They are also expected to be armed, and drawing their weapon for their safety isn't really that unusual or inappropriate. This gives confrontations a different dynamic because you don't have questions like there were in the Zimmerman case about why they were following the suspect or why they pulled their gun. People are supposed to compliant with cops, and frankly if they behave aggressively things can escalate very quickly. Because of this it is appropriate to give the cop the benefit of the doubt in many cases.

I can't make a call whether the officer should be charged or not, because I simply don't know all of the evidence. I wasn't there and it would be unfair of me to say what should happen based on things that I don't know. My hope is what ever the decision is made, the reaction will be in a civil manner. Hoping for no violence, but hard to imagine that being the case.

Hard to disagree with this take:

The situation in Ferguson is one of the media's making. Hope we're all feeling good about ourselves. Pathetic.

I really don't think this Ferguson thing is going to be a big violent thing. I think we'll see maybe a few sociopathic anarchists come out and do some sociopathic things, but other than that I expect peaceful protests.

Hope you're right, Weso. I think it could be very bad.

I think a sizable percentage of those protestors are idiots and just want to **** **** up.
