Fredi Gonzalez Rant Thread.

I like to second guess Fredi as much as anyone. But I consider it unsporting to do this on an ex post basis. There was a lot of that in yesterday's game thread. If people are going to beat up on him in the gdt they should say ahead of time where they think he should make a different decision. That in my mind earns them the right to beat him up a bit. But to just go on and on without making some sort of ex ante second guess seems more like a toddler tossing a fit, and that's how a lot of the whining yesterday in the eighth inning came across.

I always do, but I wasn't one of the complainers yesterday, so I can't speak for them.

I wasn't speaking about you. I think you're one of the posters who likes to think things ahead. So I'd be happy to have you in my side of the partitioned game thread. We can call it Slovenia. Those are the most peace-loving and most civilized people of the former Yugoslavia, at least so they claim.

There was a lot of us in that thread that were questioning him before the 3 run homer by Brown.

In game decisions can be nitpicked over ad nauseam and probably don't matter THAT much anyway.

Fredi and the coaching staff never get any credit for the positive playing environment which they create and that's unfair since it's probably much more important. We take it for granted but Braves players gel quickly as a team and seem to love playing together. It's not that way on every team.

In Soviet Russia, Game thread think ahead of you.

I don't second guess managers very often, but not yanking Avilan last night bordered on insane. Kimbrel's shoulder "whatever" may have dictated the decision, which gives Fredi a pass, but Avilan did his best Pepe LePew last night.

Players tend to bond from having a common enemy. It is not unheard of for the manager to be one of their common enemies. But Fredi doesn't seem that type. Think Dallas Green.

I will start the movement! Fredi Out!!!!!!! The guy is clueless and needs to be replaced. Anyone that knows baseball at all can see that he does not know how to manage this team.

1. Playing BJ in the 2 spot.

2. Not knowing when to bunt the runner over.

3. Leaving pitchers in too long.

4. Better yet, not knowing how to handle his pitchers all together.

5. Not giving Freeman a day off.

6. Pinch running for Gattis and he is our best hitter.

7. Matter of fact, I can't think of anything he does well.

Please change the title. Cruel to those of us counting the days.

No kidding, I saw the title and thought he had been fired (wishful thinking of course). Oh well. Seriously, I think we'll have to miss the playoffs entirely for him to even possibly be fired. He could do almost anything before hand and still keep his job since we won a division last year. Plus they won't fire him right after he was named to the All-Star staff (proving once again what a joke All-Star selection can be).

That said, I'd argue that this year Fredi has did all the little things he can do to cost us games. That is why I am frustrated with us being stuck with him because unlike most others here I see a very good young team that could win a lot with better managing (and some roster tweaks here and there).

PS: I also believe we made mistakes letting Huddy and Reed Johnson go. They both brought leadership for a rather young team and Huddy is a much better pitcher than many around here gave credit, IMO.

He is one of the worst in-game managers out there. No clue how to put players in the best position to succeed. He panics/quits when things aren't going well and (as a result) isn't prepared for the possibility of extra innings. He will be one of those managers who end up on ESPN after the Braves get sick of him.

I agree, my main issues with him is his terrible bullpen management and how he panics in general when things get tough. Huddy basically called him on the latter too after leaving, though his main objective was praising his new manager ability to do the opposite. Huddy is totally right on both accounts IMO, Bochy is one of the best.

That is just hilarious because the main gripe from posters during GTs is that Fredi is too slow to make moves, or doesn't "panic" fast enough. The posters who regularly berate Fredi on here seem to have no idea how managing decisions are made.

Here's a hint: he's not trying to WIN every game like it's the 7th game of the WS. He's more concerned with keeping players mentally and physically healthy for the WHOLE season (the bullpen notwithstanding because they're expendable and their magic doesn't last that long anyway). He's just trying to find a way to get the team just playing up to their potential. That's why he keeps batting BJ 2nd and why he isn't going to drop FF from the 3 hole anytime soon, unless there's something really wrong with Freddie, which could be the case.

Some were complaining about Simmons coming in last night. Wasn't it obvious? Fredi tried his best to not use him but Hale, who went almost 3 innings after pitching the night before was burnt, soggy toast. He had no choice but to bring Simmons in for 2 outs.

In game decisions aren't anywhere near as important as you guys make them out to be. The players win or lose the game, 99.99% of the time. The FO cares more about the mood in the clubhouse than they do about bullpen or pinch run decisions.

Btw, how in the hell are we still tied for 1st as bad as we are playing???
