I don't know what prompted him to do that. He's got a temper but never has he done anything close to that. Question is though, is open cup suspendable to MLS? I'm not sure.

From what I read, I believe so. He is also out of the Gold Cup.

I haven't heard about the GC, I just started reading reports, they're saying it's likely he'll miss 2-3 games of the GC depending on how many games he plays for Seattle until he satisfy's USSF's rules. I could see JK make an example of him as well as I can see him not caring. Hard to get a read on that. And there's questions if the Open cup is a USSF officially sanctioned event or some **** like that. WE'll see how it plays out in the coming weeks.

I think if he's suspended for 3 games of the GC, he shouldn't make the 23 man and should only be used if an injury occurs. Doesn't make sense to bring him on.

I would roll with

GK - Guzan
RB - Yedlen
CB - Brooks
CB - Gonzo
LB - Chandler
CDM - Beckerman
CM - Bradley
CM - Diskerud
RM - Johnson
LM - Bedoya.
ST - Jozy

Basically give both Bradley and Diskerud free reign to attack as they see fit and leave Beckerman back to cleanup infront of the CBs. I don't see a straight replacement for Dempsey so their options are basically go to a tradtitional 4-4-2 with Jozy and Johannson pairing, hope that someoen like Agudelo or Zardes can succeed in that role, or totally change the formation. I'm for the last option. Not sure what partnership makes sense in the changing formation.

Basically on likely players going to WC for MF and FW, you have Bradley, Diskerud, Morales, and Beckerman as your mids, Johnson, Bedoya, and Zardes as your wides. Beckerman can only play 1 position, that's as a defensive mid. Morales is best deployed as a defensive mid as well. I see him and Beckerman as interchangeable but prefer Beckerman's veteran calmness. Bradley is a true box to box mid. He does it all well. But you don't want in him a postiion where he feels he must cover the defense. Mix should be a box to box and he's improved as such under JK's watch. He doesn't just attack anymore. If Lee Nguyen makes it he's an attacker. For the out wide guys, they're all more mids except Zardes who's more of a winger. Lots of weird pairings there. US is in a transition where they have some very young and talented wingers. For your forwards it will be Jozy and Johansson, if Dempsey is out Wondo almost certainly takes his place. Which is good news for Morris cause he was on the bubble before and he almost certainly makes it as I think the US brings 4 forwards cause Agudelo can be used as a winger.

Which leads me to my other formation idea. One I'm less of a fan of. a 4-3-3

RB - Johnson
CB - Brooks
CB - Gonzalez
LB - Chandler
CDM - Beckerman
CM - Bedoya
CM - Bradley
LW - Zardes
RW - Agudelo
ST - Jozy

I can see that working. But I don't like that we're losing Yedlin and Mix. Of course they'll come off the bench. Or we could put Bedoya on the wing and Mix at CM but Bedoya isn't a winger. He's a box to box mid.

Lol, Dempsey. Probably suspended for a long time now.

It was yellow, then red, so not a straight red 3 game situation. I'm thinking maybe 1 game? That's what I would go with.

I mean, no one got hurt other than the incompetent ref's feelings (I assume incompetence because I only saw the one highlight). Players mouth off and disrespect refs all the time. Dempsey just did it with panache. Legend.

I love that taking the notebook and throwing it on the ground only earned a yellow, as well. Fun precedent.

The reason they're saying Dempsey is out is because of him damaging the refs property which USSF has rules about. Now question is when they say property are they referring to personal property or league property? There's potential for loopholes if USSF wants to exploit them. But I think given it's the GC not confed or WC the US Will make an example of Dempsey to stop other players from considering doing this.

The talk is the suspension will be much longer than 3 games. It wasn't just the disagreement, but the destroying of the refs property. He tore up the gamebook where the ref uses to file his game report. That does sound stupid to get too upset over, but it was incredibly dumb by Dempsey.

Destruction of property? ****, sounds serious. But I think Staples is having a sale right now, so a $2.50 fine should cover it.

Not sure if Dempsey is going to be able to afford it when he's suspended for a couple months.

Yeah, looks like contrary to the notebook, the rulebook is inflexible and has it at three months. Which I'm pretty sure is longer than DUI manslaughter. Ridiculous guideline for something that I consider first and foremost funny as hell.

Still, maybe common sense will win out since there really were no victims. The ref still got to **** all over the game and be the hero. That's worth something.

Yeah. Holiday shouldn't have gotten the yellow, especially so early. Then again, I don't think she's really been adding much, at least in the system being used and the games that I've seen. I guess it's not really her fault, but they're clearly missing some things.

Ref had a pretty poor first half. Vidal in particular had some really bad, late, obvious dives. Pretty funny when she got subbed for the backup keeper. Ref seemed to generally get it right in the second half. First PK was probably a FK although the straight red seemed right.

Wambach taking a penalty left-footed = openly daring Ellis to bench her. She won't.

That backup keeper came up huge pushing Morgan's shot in. Might have gotten interesting if Colombia could have held out a few minutes with 10.

Holliday was the softest yellow of the match. I wouldn't have given Rapinoe one either but hers was questionable. Then towards the end a Colombian forward slides in late with her studs up on Johnstons plant leg and doesn't get even a yellow. Except for her red card penalty on the keeper and yellow card penalty to the woman who checked Rapinoe, she was just ****ing the US. ANd it was a penalty, the line is still the penalty area, and considering where the goalie finished there's almost no way she wasn't still in the penalty area when she got Morgan.

Wambach is qute a dilemma for the US. She is out there because no one can cover her, but aside from her goal, she's been non-existent. Hell I think that may have been her only shot on target all tourney. I personally would bench her and go with a 4-3-3 with Press, Morgan and ROdriguez up top. Then you can bring Abby on from the bench as a set piece threat, and you still have Leroux from the bench as a burner. But I don't think Ellis has the stones to make that move.

Columbia was going to lose. The US has been doing this all through the group stages just wearing teams down. The issue is once they hit Germany or France, will that be good enough. THeir defense after the first game has been straight up dominant. Sauerbrunn and Johnston aren't the most athletic CBs, but they're so damned smart. Krieger and Klingenberg have been flat out great on the wides as well. ONly gripe with them is sometimes they make some bad passes. Of course with Krieger sometimes she makes some truly brilliants ones as well. THose 2 seem to be the only Yanks interested in upping the tempo of the passing. Everyone else seems to want to play with their backs to goal or hold the ball and come to the middle. If we're not gonna play wide naturally, then go to a 4-3-3 that congests the other team and traps attackers. What's happening now just isn't working, and it didn't work through the group, the excuse then was the strength of the group, but that doesn't excuse us from not taking care of COlumbia, us not dominating Columbia would be like in the last world cup Germany not dominating Japan.

Please bench Wambach. Worse than what Donovan was when he was benched.

I've felt like USWNT coaching ahs been an issue. I wonder if Ellis doesn't bench Wambach because Ellis is afraid of what will happen to the locker room. Wambach has been accused fo being a locker room issue in the past.

Few shocks to GC roster.

First Tim Ream, really? Second shocked that Besler isn't there. I'm a little shocked Agudelo didn't make it either.
