By the way, put your money where your mouth is. USA is -350 to lose in the group stage.

I wouldn't be on it because the US is in the group with 2 of the top 4 ranked teams in the world. If the US gets out of the group you should get tattoo of Klinsmann on your face. Cause you've been dogging him since day one and he's only ever proven you wrong so far.

Here's my take on the group winners

GroupA: Brazil, Croatia
GroupB: Spain, Netherlands
GroupC: Colombia, Ivory Coast
GroupD: Italy, England
GroupE: France, Switzerland
GroupF: Argentina, Bos&Herz
GroupG: Germany, Portugal
GroupH: Belgium, Algeria

That's the largely safe bet.

I think Chile may be a surprise in group B, Group C Columbia should roll and the other 3 are largely coin tosses. Greece is the popular pick because of defense. Group D I prefer the Uruguayans to the English. Group E is freaking soft. Best bet for a CONCACAF team to make it out of group. Group H is soft. WHoever wins G gets a soft game. ANd whoever comes second in 6, has the best shot of making it past 16 JMO.

US starting XI largely the same

GK - Howard
LB - Chandler
CB - Besler
CB - Cameron
RB - Fabian
CDM - Jones
LM - Davis
RM - Zusi
CM - Bradley
ST - Dempsey
ST - Jozy

US Defensively looks disorganized, Offensively they were stunning. Dempsey and Jozy really created issues. Could have had 4 goals when it's all said and done. Need a little bit better play to best Germany and Portugal.

US beat an in form Turkey. Turkey has been better than Ghana as of late. Infact odds are after the WC Turkey probably is ahead of Ghana unless they make it through.

US starts out with a win against Ghana they have a hell of a shot to advance if they get a positive result against Portugal. Lets say they beat Ghana. Germany beats portugal. US then only needs 2 draws to advance.

Remember the UCL finals where Chelsea beat Bayern by throwing 10 behind the ball and having Drogba hold up. Jozy and the US could play that similar role if they just need a point. At that point Germany could be playing for nothing anyway if they have 6 points they may be content to also park the bus. US has to beat Ghana is the key and if you watched the game, then you'd have seen lots of positive signs of goal scoring. US could have scored buckets of goals today with some better luck and the ref not ruining 3 goal chances.

BTW **** like this is why I love Dempsey

Of course I can just watch this forever

Just some musing. It looks like Mix is gonna likely be the first choice off the bench in many uses. He's really come into his own lately. There's seemingly still 2 battles going on, Davis/Bedoya and Chandler/Beasley. I'm not sure who's favored now. Bedoya has played extremely well. Davis has played extremely well. Neither Beasley or Chandler have stood out aside from that bad defensive lapse at the ned of the game by Timmy.

Argentina's offense is insane.defense and goal keeping are a worry though. A team who can dominate possession could wreck them

Argentina should at least make the semi-finals. I just wonder if they can link up with that elite offense consistently. Mascherano is not really a play-maker a la a Pirlo or Iniesta.
Mexico / Bosnia-Herzegovina friendly should be some good soccer tonight.

I don't know, Mexico seems to be shambles with the injuries. I really like this Bosnia team though and they are very good offensively. Argentina should handle them rather easily, but Bosnia should advance. And if Argentina wins the group, they have a cake walk. They also have limited travel throughout the whole tourney.

I look forward to seeing De Maria play more centrally, I think he's going to be a star in the world cup.

Not a fan of the US lineup today. Don't like Zusi not playing, don't like Dempsey not being up top, and many many more things.

Have never been a huge soccer fan(outside of us women's wc games,) but I'm actually pretty excited about this world cup. What do you think our chances are of advancing out of a tough group?
