GDT 10/7, NLDS Game Two, Braves-Marlins (Braves up 1-0 in the series)

Be nice if Riley could run into one at some point. he hasn't had an XBH in 20+ at bats dating back to the regular season. I mean the law averages comes into play at some point right?

On the list of dumb ideas put out by whining baseball people, outlawing the shift is almost certainly the dumbest.

The argument that defense is so efficient now that it makes the game less exciting is a logically sound position to take.

A grounder through the hole a single isn’t very exciting, but it is definitely more exciting than a ground out. Mostly due to what happens after the single.

Mr Analytics giving one up to the "baseball guys?"

i don't get this stuff.
these things are not mutually exclusive.
analytics are how the best front offices evaluate players these days. that doesn't mean there's zero human element to it, or zero value in watching a guy.
there is obviously craft to pitching that can't always be caught in stats (tho I'd argue Anderson's numbers in the minors show he had something else besides pure good stuff).

Ronnie seriously talked trash and has struck out three times? lmao. The first pitch he struck out on was damn good but the rest have been hot garbage. Bad look, Ronald.

My issue with that cliche is when it’s used as an excuse for a guy having poor stuff. We used to hear it frequently about all the terrible pitchers the Braves ran out there before this good run, and it got to the point of being comical.

I fully agree that pitchers have to execute to succeed, and if that’s called “knowing how to pitch”, I am on board.

Anderson might be a guy who statcast might not tell the whole story. I don't think we're able to track the similarity of look of a fastball and changeup out of the hand. His results seem to exceed his stuff. Super impressive.

Spinrate certainly looks down on Anderson.

But everything else is gravy. So while we may not be able to totally judge how well he tunnels the ball his results show us he's doing it. And in the end results are what matters.

I thought the change that got him in what I think was the 2nd AB was pure filth.
