GDT #49 5/25/'14: Rockies (Morales) @ Braves (Teheran) 5:10 PM EST

That's true but people like Holliday are clearly in decline. Upton is in his prime and should be at his best the next few years. And with the current market he will easily get 20 plus a year without any improvement. If you think 18 a year is too much like niners is saying then you just haven't been paying attention.

Well to be honest athletes get paid way way way too much, but that isn't the point here.

What are your thoughts on BJ's deal. What did he ever do to earn his contract?

Of course we don't. We become worse because Justin is better than both of them. If One of them were on our squad you'd be complaining about them even more than you complain about Justin.

i'm pretty sure it was supposed to be the current, not the future. Assuming its the currrent ("who would you want to be your LF this year?) how is he wrong, besides Gordon?

You posted career OPS. And you can rarely take into account the present without taking into account the future.

I don't know if you put much stock into war as a stat. But front offices do. And bj was a 3 war player. And the going rate for that at the time was about 15 a year. It sucks he forgot how to play but he was worth it at the time

I don't even recall BJ having much interest a free agent. Were there teams rumored to be interested in signing him? I ask because I don't know.

I think the phillies may have. Wren may have over paid a bit to get bj to sign early. Still if the braves get the bj that posted a wrc+ of 110 with plus defense and baserunning they will have a good player.

Phillies, Nats and Mets IIRC were interested. Braves didn't want to lose their target to a rival. What threw that market off was the Twins unexpectedly trading Span and Revere. Everyone basically figured there were 3 CFers on the market, Upton, Bourn, and Span/Revere with the Twins keeping the other. In the end Wren would have paid dividends waiting, but there's no promises in baseball and no takesies backsies because the Twins traded both CFs driving down the FA value of Bourn and Upton. Braves I'm also guessing were scarred by the BUrnett/Lowe experience.

Heck of a win tonight, gotta love a easy going game. Teheran is seriously the man. His only bit of trouble was the first inning, no issues really after that. Justin Upton has been so freaking good, he was good last year, but amazing this year. I need to see it translate on the road, but I'm confident in him. Also, Evan Gattis may not be perfect, but he's one hell of a player to have in that lineup! Also, I'm a fan of what BJ Upton is doing. I know he didn't get anything to know for it today, but he had some great at-bats.

This team can look like the worst team in baseball, then turn around and have a great week. Rather puzzling at times. :panic:

The thing is, that happens to a lot of teams. A lot of fans will have similar reactions to their teams at times throughout the season. We aren't unique.

It's been remarked upon a lot, but I really see a difference in BJs at-bats. The results will come if he keeps doing what he's doing. His brother, though . . . whew.

Teheran . . . damn. Nothing to say about him except that he is one of the best in the business right now. It doesn't matter who he's facing—every time he takes the ball, I feel like we're going to be in a position to get a W.

I'm thrilled with what we're getting from Gattis. If he gets a fastball on the plate or a breaking pitch up, he can hit it out. It's hard to complain about that.

Trade him asap.

I have higher expectations of the team I guess than others do. I think BJ Upton is a very bad hitter. I hope he proves me dead wrong. I would be happy if he hit .220 and double 10 bombs would be gravy. I wasn't even posting during our losing streak either. I try to stay away when we are in a rut.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

I love the higher expectations line. I really do. No you don't. We all want the best from our team. Some are just more emotionally challenged than the rest. You are correct in the fact that BJ is a bad hitter however
