GDT 5/25/21: Braves @ Sawx - Snits Blows the Lineup

If the plan was to add in the OF at the deadline, then it may as well happen now.

Folks who think Arcia or Waters is going to be the answer will be in for a rude awakening if that’s what happens.

Oh yeah, forgot to add....

No amount of extra bases gained by Ozuna sliding hands first even comes close to making up for losing him 6 weeks. It is always a bad idea.

This would be the point we all praise AA for maintaining the deep system - problem is, he's shown no sign of moving anyone that would interest other teams thus far. That worked in LA and Toronto since they'd just ship middling prospects to someone looking to unload contracts - just can't see that playing out here. There aren't really any power guys out there with expiring contracts anyway. Bringing Blackmon "home" might make a modicum of sense if the idiots in Colorado hadn't put two player options at the end of his deal. The Reds will want a haul for Castellanos. The Cubs are going to get the haul they hoped for when they deal Bryant - the question is WHEN do they pull the trigger and what do you do with the two of them if Ozuna's OK just after the All-Star break?

IF - the big if we don't have the answer to - the payroll is somewhat flexible, do you make a play for Seager at this point with Riley shifting to LF? Getting Seattle to eat some of the money isn't likely going to be a problem, but the budget's obviously going to dictate the level of prospect(s) you'll have to part with if it's a significant amount - and now you don't want to put Riley in any deal. They're not going to be interested in Waters since they already have a ton of OFs. Teams will take Pache or Harris, but I'm relatively sure they're off-limits.

Trey Mancini or Santander sure would be good fits, but Waters and Wright probably doesn't get either of them. Neither Wright or Muller has helped their value in their starts so far, so you know everybody's going to ask for Davidson or Wilson - and those are the two guys AA more or less HAS TO keep for depth at this point.

I can’t imagine it would take much to get David Peralta right now. Grab him and move Acuña to CF for the last 2+ months of the season.

I'd certainly call and see if you could get either him or Escobar without giving up the farm. You could probably slide Ozzie and Riley up to the #3 and #4 holes and hit either of those guys behind them.

Braves need a middle of the order bat? Time to convince Nick Markakis to come out of retirement.
