GDT 6/12/23: Braves @ Tigers - Mort on the mound

Iglesias shouldn't have been in the game once he allowed the tying run to reach base before getting an out, on top of already giving up two runs. He also was over 20 pitches, and ended up throwing about 30, so he's at least unavailable for tomorrow if not the rest of the series. And if Rosario wasn’t in the field, I wouldn’t even have to be harping on this as much.

Dude lacks the most basic tactical skills. There has to be someone with a lick of common sense that also can run a clubhouse out there. I can’t take this **** no more.

Pillar or Hillard either one catches that ball and we aren’t even discussing it. Late in a game Rosario can in no way be in the field. Ridiculous. And once again Snit leaves his guy in too long.

I wonder if the Braves will shake up the rotation a bit before Philadelphia. As of now, Atlanta would be throwing Smith-Shawver, Shuster, and Elder at Citizens Bank. I honestly think they are the biggest threat to the division.

Can't be too upset with this game. We were due for a game like this after the last week or so. Should have lost at least 1 game of the Mets series. Behind by 3 runs in each game and came back to win each game. Not something you see happen very often.

Rebound today and lets take 5 of the next 6 games.

They could have won all six or lost all six in the Mets/Nationals set, but came out 5-1. I guess some people call it luck, but I've always called it baseball.

Braves are a very good team, but they'll stub their toe like everyone else.

Ahhhhh. As always, after the heat of the moment everyone seems to be looking at this rationally again. Nothing a good night’s sleep won’t cure.
Like our chances today for sure!

yes we can be upset by this loss. It was perhaps the worse managed game of the year and that might be by any team. Twit thinks if it is the 9th then Riggy, by rule, is only allowed to pitch.. it wasn't luck.. it wasn't baseball, it was a manager not doing the bare minimum to be successful.. not defensive subing a horrible defender when up by 4.. not pulling a guy when he clearly doesn't have it. This is 101 of managing for dummies and twit can't even follow that. But I am sure there is a 'really good' or 28 in there somewhere if I wanted to listen to that idiot's post game presser.

If not substituting a better defensive left fielder and sticking with your closer is the most horribly managed game by any manager this year, then baseball must be in a golden age of management where every manager is near perfect.

Our closer melted down. It happens. It sucks and is super annoying but it happens. If there's any blame on this it's more roster construction in not having a more dominant closer.

It was a save situation and Iglesias hadn't pitched in 3 days. Who else exactly would you like him to throw in a save situation other than the closer? What a terrible take.

Aside from the homer, we got BABIP'd to death in the 9th. The Schoop single to start the inning was a ground ball that found a hole. The Carpenter single after the homer was a bloop single to CF. The Maton single to RF is probably caught if Ozzie isn't playing up the middle for a double play. And the game tying hit obviously is an out with a better fielder in LF. This stuff does indeed happen.

Pretty sure Matt is saying just bc it's the 9th doesn't mean you can't pull iglesias if uneffective.

If you have a 3-run lead and your closer in, you shouldn't have to worry about extra inning offense... no way in hell, you shouldn't have your best defenders in

Exactly.

There’s plenty of blame to go around. Some of it was luck, some of it was performance, and some of was Snitker not putting his team in the best position to win the game.

yeah.. I am fine with Riggy starting the inning.. the single to start was close to 100 ev.. the homer was blasted.. Riggy's command was suspect and the single to right was blasted.. bloops happen.. but as soon as he started getting in trouble, you get Minter and Chanvez or any other Righty in the pen up and see if you can save the game before you go to extras.. You can send Murphy out to talk to him to stall.. then Kranny can go out before you yank him to have your arms ready.

the second point is having Rasorrio, who is a negative defender by a good margin, anywhere near left field. He should have been sitting on the bench thinking how awesome he is versus playing left thinking how awesome he is. That is a managers basic duties.. to put the team in the best case to win every night.. Twit never rests anyone, he manages by color by number coloring book, and thinks sabermetrics is the length of a sword. I am sorry if you think it is ok to excuse Twit for "this is baseball" for the horrible managing decisions.. but I won't.. Not to mention he is a national embarrassment with every post game interview and his 37 'really good' he has to say... or his 'it happens, and it will happen again'.. yeah with you never learning a damn thing, it will happen again, you stupid buffon..
