GDT 6/13: Strider, and a Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall

Strider is in the rotation until he unequivically proves he shouldn't be there. If he can't develop a third pitch, he's in the bullpen a year or so out and he'd probably be solid out there if he's healthy. I've been critical of Anthopoulos' slap-happy approach on the extensions, but Strider should be at least a decent bullpen guy through his contract at bottom. If he gets squared away, he can still be a rotation guy.

But, to me, this is another guy who was rushed through the system. His top-tier stuff plays well, but as we are seeing now, there's not much to fall back on if his stuff isn't quite there because they didn't take the time to develop him.

I mean, he's already been very good at 95-97 this year... unhittable at times, especially early. This has nothing really to do with velocity as much as it has been awful locating.

Sure. But then there are days like today where his location is off and he get trashed. That's what happens with starters who are average. Great some days and meh on others.
