GDT 6/14/22: Braves @ Gnats - Win it for Ozzie

Kyle Wright's success this year has given the Braves options at the end of this year (if he sustains that success all year). Right now, Fried and Wright at the top of the rotation looks really good for the next few years. Ian Anderson and Charlie Morton have struggled so far. If Wright continues to have success, I wonder what the Braves will do with Morton's option. Ian appears destined to be a rotation mainstay while he remains affordable, but if Soroka comes back and proves himself effective, I wouldn't be surprised if Ian was dealt this winter.

Fried, Wright and Soroka as the Big three with a vet and Strider/Muller pushing each other is a pretty good rotation position and provides money for Riley/Swanson.

I still think Morton gets right by the end of the season and he is in the rotation next season.

Isn't the option only 15M? For one year thats a great bargain.

It's 20 million, not 15.

Too early to tell. Also Morton may decide he's done if he can't do it to his standard.

If they do not think he can be a 3 WAR pitcher then they'll have a decision to make. They likely will want a vet on the young starting rotation, but maybe Fried will count next year.

Was about to say. Fried is pretty much a veteran at this point and seems like a leader/quiet general type. Still one other veteran is nice if Morton isn’t there. Not a lot of innings logged for the other starters in their careers yet.

With us having 1 more against the Nats and a series with the Cubs coming up we really need to cut the lead to 3 before playing the Giants and Dodgers. It’s amazing we’ve cut it from 10.5 to 5.

When you're playing well it doesn't matter who you're playing.

If this stretch of games happened in April we would be 500 against them.

Not worries about the schedule at this time based on the teams performance.

Dodgers are in the middle of a rough spot right now and no Buehler.

They are always going to be a tough matchup, but I think this Dodger team is a step below previous years.

Looking at the playoff format. I think it would be better to be the last WC spot so you could face the NL Central division winner. I think the Cards/Brewers will be the weakest of the playoff teams. So I would either want that or ideally take the division and get a 1st round bye.

Cardinals certainly don’t have the high end pitching the other playoff teams have, but I want no part of their playoff voodoo magic.

I would rather play the 27 Yankees than St. Louis. I still suffer acute anxiety from 82….. not to mention more recent history
