A single by Swanson maybe scores one. A successful bunt and a single by Flaherty scores 2. It's a solid play IF you half a halfway decent pinch-hitter.

I think he was hoping Sims could go a few and rest the pen. When that obviously wasn’t going to work, you go with the contingency plan.
