GDT 6/28/23: Braves @ Twinkies - Powerful Ass Lineup for Allard

I tend to agree with you. Strider, Elder, and Morton are the only consistent starters right now. We’ve done well without Fried and Wright and neither are guaranteed to stay healthy the rest of the year. The other guys can shift to the bullpen to help out. If Giolito and a reliever is obtainable for Grissom then I’d be all over it.

Agreed. Giolito and Chapman would be my two targets i'd be after. The cost for Chapman shouldn't be too much. He has a cheap contract and has done well this season, but was bad for the Yankees last year and has the stigma of not being a good clubhouse guy (similar to Ozuna) with our Latin core, perhaps we can gamble they'd be able to keep him in line.

When I say similar to Ozuna, I know his team mates love him, it's the off field issues I was referring to

I wonder if Hader is going to be offered. The Friars are a mess and I am not upset about it. That is a team full of guys I love to hate.

11 games out of the division and 8 games out of the WC. I knew they were not doing well but didn't realize they are that far out of it. They'd be smart to trade their veterans on expiring contracts if they are in a similar position going into the deadline.

Hader seems like the type of sly move AA would make that would be announced 30 minutes after the deadline passes. Blake Snell has an ERA under 1 since late May. Seems like he's figured it out.

Knowing how Preller is, wonder if he'd try to sell off Soto at the deadline. 1.5 years left, 2 playoff runs.

Grissom is our best trade chip and still holds a lot of value. Him straight up for an expiring contract should net us a good player.

My thought as well....also, for someone like Chapman, you can't expect too much of a return. Someone like Dodd who can give them starts for a few years for next to nothing is something I wonder if they'd bite at rather than an A/AA/AAA player with little to no upside.

Trading him for someone on an expiring deal isnt a good use of assets and something i truly doubt AA does.

He’s just as liable to trade for whomever is the trendy BPA is to once again win the award for “Deadline Winners” (TM)

Malloy says hello from Detroit

AA will make a move if it is a difference maker for our team. Grissom is blocked by Ozzie, Arcia, and Riley. Unless they plan to move him to LF, where is is blocked next season by Rosario and Ozuna, there is not a place for him other than back up IF. He is a luxury, not a difference maker

He doesn't have to be a difference maker - just someone who can take the ball every five days and take some pressure off the AAA shuttle. Like how we got Odorizzi last year.

Malloy's never made the bigs. Grissom's at least shown he can play a little in the bigs. Also Grissom could be the backup IF'er.

Braves got a full season from Jiminez. I think there’s a difference between that and acquiring someone for 2 months.

Also, Malloy is the epitome of a fringe prospect

Honestly our lineup is so deep that Shewmake could be fine as the backup IF over Grissom.

Putting Shewmake in there isn't going to bring down the other 8 hitters around him. I think we're just really spoiled how deep this lineup is 1-9 now.

I see AA targeting a big-time RP.

What about trading for Scherzer or Verlander if Cohen eats money? Not kidding. We don’t need fringey adds, we’ve got plenty of guys who are adequate but don’t move the needle.

My biggest concern is we swagger into October, the bats aren’t particularly hot and the erratic pitching shows up.

Not sure they are difference makers anymore. Also Max has a player option that the Mets can’t eat. So we would be on hook if he calls that option. And he will.

I mean you can’t time when a team is hot or cold so not sure that’s worth being concerned about. Of course it could happen, it happens to multiple teams every year. Most you can do is be one of the best teams and hope for the best.
