GDT: 7/01/14 - Braves vs. Mets

So what do you think minor's problem has been? I know in the Astros start both of the homers were on the cutter he's trying to add

In 47 starts since July of 2012, he's given up 4 or more ER on'y 8 times. My point is that he's earned some patience. I have no idea what's wrong with him, not least because I haven't seen many of his innings this year.

I am not saying we should dump him. I mentioned a few weeks back in a Samardjiza thread that I would include Minor in a deal to get Samardjiza.

Minor has also been bad over a stretch of time before his great 2013 campaign. I don't know off hand what his ERA is after tonight. Maybe around 5.00? I think he's a low to mid 4 ERA

guy.

Look at the 2nd half of 2012 and add 2013 in he is not a low 4 era more like low to mid 3s

Probably in the minority but I'd trade Minor by July 31st if the deal was good. If Minor was a key piece in a Price trade I don't think twice. We have good pitching being developed in the minors and have a track record of developing them. Minor has always had a HR problem even when he's been good.

I don't see us extending Minor as he would've been one of the first guys to extend when Wren went on the core extension spree in February. So might as well see what we can get.
He won't be a FA until 2018 so he would be a solid piece for somebody.

Not sure but from what I've seen he's throwing too many strikes not sure what else to make of the combination of increased hits homers allowed and strikeouts (he's damn near 1 an inning)

Julio was a no brainer because of how cheap it was to extend him minor will not be cheap probably Bailey money (which I think he's worth) and who's replacing minor long term? And I highly doubt if we trade for and retain price that we would also be able to extend justin/heyward/wood

I wouldnt trade him for Sarj unless he'd re-sign.

Maybe not at all.

I dont think it would cost Bailey money.

Not giving up on Minor by any means, but he is far from untouchable IF the right deal came along. I'm not sure I'd trade him for Samardzija, though, as it's been suggested.

Minor started the year off pretty well considering he was coming off a serious injury. I have no doubt that Roger can fix any mechanical issues, if that's all it is. I wish he'd show just a little more focus and effort. His body language is never very good, imo.

DOB said they were gonna extend Minor when the spree was going on but they waited.

Re: Price, i'd do it if he'd extend at a not ridiculous rate, ie: 25 a year.

They can still extend Minor if they wanted.

Not untouchable, sure, but unless Price would sign a team-friendly deal, whose worth trading him for?

The HR's are frustrating for sure.

Again, I'd only trade Minor for a guy like Price... likely wouldn't for Samardzjia.

Minor could be one of our key trading chips if it came down to a guy like Price. I'd sacrifice that if it means we have Price for even 1.5 years. We've done a really good job at developing pitching, and plugging in holes in the pitching staff.

Assuming Wood stays healthy, Teheran continues to be this good, and we also have Hursh, Sims, and others developing... I wouldn't be opposed to trading Minor.

In 2 years we won't know how to replace Gattis' production, we probably won't have Heyward, we probably won't have Justin, BJ will still be BJ, Freeman might be the only constant on our offense at that point. At least with our offense now we can get hot and quick strike, would love to still have a guy like Price. Price-Teheran I'll match up with Kershaw-Greinke.

Teams would probably want Wood more than Minor even though Minor has accomplished more... but I'd still try to sell them on Minor.

Hell of a win to continue the streak with Teheran going tomorrow! I've been at work all night, so I havent been on, but I have been catching up. I know most of us (myself included) were against BJ in the leadoff spot, but he's been getting on and getting steals. It's working...

Also, I don't know what's up with Minor. It looks like he's not trusting his stuff enough, throwing too many fastballs and even more, too many strikes...then come the homers. I think he'll turn it around though.

Let's keep it rolling tomorrow!

I dont see us losing Heyward and JUp, may be only to keep one but i dont think they lose both.

And i wouldnt trade 4 years of controlled Minor for 1.5 of Price at all unless he extends.

I'd trade Minor in the right deal, sure. As much as I hate the silly message-board competitions that are postulated between two of our guys whom I like (i.e. Heyward vs. Freeman or Minor vs. Teheran) I'd say I was more sold on JT's future vs. Minor's, all things considered. I just don't advocate moving him as anything less than a major piece in a move for a stud.

Minor's issues in early 2012 seemed to be between the ears. Let's hope it's the same now.

Good shot at a sweep tomorrow with JT on the mound.
