GDT: 7/01/14 - Braves vs. Mets

A Minor+ for Price swap would be interesting.

The Braves are set up to compete this year and next year. I'd almost consider pulling the trigger on that one. And I think Tampa would be interested as well.

Love Price but unless he'd sign a team-friendly extension, that doesnt make much sense.

I wouldnt trade him for Sarj unless he'd re-sign.

Maybe not at all.

Minor has more upside for sure. He's four or five years younger and is under team control until 2018. That alone makes him desirable I would think. I would rather trade him now if he netted us someone like a Price or Samardjiza.

Minor has shown flashes of dominance, but he's far too inconsistent at this point.

The offense is now ranked 27th in baseball. It sounds awful, but it shows just how much better we've been over the last month. We were dead last in runs by about 35 runs for a while... yes, even under the Padres and now we are making a huge surge. This little winning streak has been great for a lot of things! Hopefully Gattis heals quickly.

Well, I'm usually a long-term thinker. But I'm looking at our window of opportunity to win a WS title. To me, it's this year or next year, while we still have Heyward and Justin. Price would be a noticeable upgrade to Minor, especially come playoff time where power/strikeout pitching is more effective.

Looking at his stats, I'm surprised that Minor's GO/AO is actually better this year than it's been in the past. What's appears to be killing him is his HR/FB is up dramatically as is his LD%. He's always going to give up some HRs, but so do a lot of pretty good pitchers. It's just biting him a little more this year.

I have come to like Minor more than I did when he was first drafted. He lives upstairs a bit too much (which leads to the HRs) and I don't know if he has the stuff to get away with that on a consistent basis. But when he's on, he's a good pitcher. I don't know what the "plus" would be that we'd have to send along with him in a deal for Price (if the Rays are actually interested in Minor), but it may be worth exploring. I just don't want to clean out the minors yet again for a rental.

Minor's walks are also up this year, but only slightly (2.7/9 against 2.0/9 last year, which, by the way, was much lower than I thought), so I doubt that's a significant issue. In the context of last night's game, however, the walk turned out to be pretty galling. A solo homerun to Murphy...hey, no biggie. Guy can really hit. Walking Ruben freaking Tejada in front of Murphy, on the other hand....

I dont really disagree but it would probably cost more than Minor for Price.

I dont see Frank getting into a bidding war for Price.

You are right we can probably only keep one of Justin/Jason though...

I just can't understand the Minor bashing. Obviously he hasn't been himself but he pitched like a front line starter last year. Everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax. He'll be fine.

He is looking much more similar to pitcher who was pretty bad before 2013. Yes he had a great season last year. I am not denying this. I love how all of you sunshine blowers only remember his good season and not his poor one.

Minor will be fine. He pitched like a TOR starter for 1.5 seasons. Not gonna sell on him over a mediocre start. He has turned it around midseason before so I give him the benefit of the doubt.

He's pitched like a #1-2 the last 1.5 seasons.

But 10-12 starts means he's back to a bad pitcher when he's arguably pitched like an ace the past 1.5 seasons.

No one is a sunshine dancer but we're saying let's wait and see where Minor is after the season is over, fair enough?.

Minor's starts this year.

6 IP, 2 runs.
4.1 IP, 7 runs.
6.2 IP, 0 runs.
6.1 IP, 2 runs.
6.1 IP, 3 runs.
7 IP, 1 run.
7 IP, 1 run.
4 IP, 8 runs.
5 IP, 3 runs.
7 IP, 2 runs.
6 IP, 5 runs.
4.1 IP, 4 runs.

Out of 12 starts, i count 4 bad starts.

The rest of the starters he gave the Braves a chance to win, and in some of them, he lost because of no run support.

People act like he gives up 5 runs a game.

He outpitched Strasburg 2 weeks ago.

The Cards and Rockies game are the worst starts, wasnt great vs Houston/Mets last night. Minus that, hes been fine.

Anyone thinking the Rays would trade Price for Minor doesn't understand the Rays. They wan't guys they don't have to pay. Minor is in his 1st year or Arb so he is only under control one more year than Price. They want projectable guys who are in the minors now but are close.

Minor's a Super-2.

He's under control for 3 more years after this year.

Price 1 more year, then FA.

They'd have Minor for 2 more years than Price but we arent getting Price so it's a dumb argument.

Rays want 5-6 years of a player not 3. Especially now that they are going to be rebuilding. Better chance of trading Minor in a 3 team deal where another team sends prospects to the Rays for Minor.
