GDT 7/1

I have no idea how we'll play in July. We could go 0-for, above .500, or anything in between. I do know that all the definitive statements here about a July collapse were the same ones that said we were headed to the 1st pick when FF got hurt. A lot of you were wrong then and you just might be again

Playoff odds are low. 3% according to both BP and FG.

There are some reasons to believe that the team's baseline has shown some modest improvement since the start of the season. We have improved the bench. The first half performances of Freeman, Inciarte and Flowers all suggest that we should expect more out of them going forward than was the case at the start of the season. Partial offset from what we've seen from Teheran. I think we'll play at an 80-85 win pace in the second half. Would not state it in terms of absolutes. There is always uncertainty. Luck, injuries, etc.

If Colorado continues to slide we could be playing meaningful games in September. The gnats have been looking shaky too. I think there is something psychologically fragile about them.

I don't think we'll make the playoffs. TBH, I'll be thrilled to finish where we are right now right at or right about .500

The team I fear on that list are the Phillies.

Is 7.5 games really that much at the start of july when the team in front of you is the Rockies?

Braves pitching has improved and we are about to add Freeman to a struggling lineup. July will be tough but the Braves are actually improving as well.

It is when you have had the easiest schedule in baseball and will finally start playing good teams.

You mean the same people that don't understand that at worst the team would be 2 games worse without Freeman? Some people just understand the value of certain players. One player just doesn't make that much of a difference in baseball.

I have no doubts we've played an easy schedule... perhaps even the easiest. I do think overall record can be deceiving determining toughest schedule. One of you stat guys should take the time to determine a better SOS formula. Perhaps .60 is overall record of opponents and .40 is opponents' 5 game record before series and 5 game record after series. I just think baseball is a lot about when you play someone.

Again, I'm not saying we've played a tough schedule

plus Adams conveniently enough went on a tear

I would agree with that. We may get some breaks here and there but to me it's fair to say we have had a really easy schedule so far and July is by far the toughest of the year. I think after July we will see the true standing of this team. Again if we are close to .500 after July I will be very impressed.

Indeed. Swanson started hitting better as well as I'm sure several other factors.

Baseball is a strange sport in that while it's highly individualized it does take a group effort to play well. Losing your star player in baseball has far less ramifications than losing your star player in basketball or your QB in football.
