GDT 7/23/13: Braves (Medlen) @ Mets (Torres) 7:10 PM

Braves have won back to back games just one time this month. ITS JULY 23RD!!!! Good grief.

As I said, wake me up when this team finds it in them to actually go on an 8-2 streak. Hell, just one 8-2, 9-1 streak will put this division completely out of reach.

We have some insanely low number of games left against teams above .500, and yet we have been dreadful since the break.

Brian Jordan is laying into this team's hitting approach. Maybe they should make him the hitting coach. He is seriously upset with Braves hitters.

It's a fair point, but the regular season and postseason are two different animals. We played one good series and one bad series against the Pirates. Reds, we played pretty well. Arizona, we played pretty well. Dodgers are a different team than the one we took 5 of 7 from. When we get in the postseason against these teams, we won't have the advantage of potentially dodging their aces and what not.

Does this team have the talent to compete? Of course. Will they compete if they continue to play like that have since mid to late April? No. Sorry.

Exactly. Just get there and the team that is playing the best ball at the time usually wins, not the best team. Braves fans should understand this more than most with how the playoffs went during the streak.

Firing Walker doesn't change anything.

These guys are so lost right now I'm sure Walker is saying EVERYTHING we're saying on this board.

Simmons keeps hitting popups aggressively.

Heyward has been hitting line drives on and off right at people

Justin has 2 HR's since the 14 he hit in a few week span.

McCann can't carry the team since he doesn't play everyday.

Freeman can only do so much.

Uggla who knows.

BJ lol

CJ lol.

Once again, the only thing holding back our hitters is the hitters themselves.

Brian Jordan is making more sense than he ever has. Also, I don't know if it'd help, but I'd like to at least see someone on this team, be it Fredi or a player lay into this team's collective ass. Maybe it's already happened and hasn't worked, I don't know.

True, but management has to do something to get the hitters attention that this crap is not acceptable. Can't fire the entire team so change the hitting coach. I really think it would get their attention...may not help, but can't get any worse.

Didn't a team in recent years fire a hitting coach midway through the season and wind up going to the World Series? Or am I thinking of something else.

Well, to be fair, the break was just last week. But we've been dreadful since early June. We took 2 of 3 from the Nationals and swept the Pirates to start June. Since that sweep of the Pirates we're 19-22. That's 11 series: we've won 2, lost 6, and split 3.

In other words, we've been a below .500 (bad) team since early June. Thank God our division sucks.

Reason why our lead is not at least 12 right now.
You do realize that we have 2 hitting coaches, right? And that they work in tandem and have pretty much the same hitting philosophy? Unless you know what each of these coaches do specifically and how one or the other's approach is hurting the team, just randomly firing one is dumb.

I agree that having the two of them doesn't seem to have worked. Our approach, except for a couple of really good hitters, has only gotten worse.

last post of the night....not only are the Braves very fortunate that they reside in a weak division...Fredi is so lucky the press that covers the Braves are so weak with their questions. Other media outlets would be hanging this team about their lack of offense.

I don't know what an impact firing Walker would do for this team. Even if we resurrected Ted Williams, this team's offense may still suck.

However, this is a result oriented industry. If Walker can't get this team to improve, there are thousands of other potential hitting coaches out there pining for their chance.

I agree on the latter. But we're already almost 3/5 of the way through the season, and I'm not sure if the guy that's been working day in and day out with these guys since March getting fired will be a BOOST to this team. End of the year? Sure. But if you were to do it, it should've been done in June or beginning of the month at latest.

This team does need a BOOST. I don't care how Wren goes about it, but he needs to reenergize this club.

Fred McGriff for hitting coach! He was trained by the master, Tom Emanski.
