GDT: 7/31/14...10:10 PM EST Start...Braves (No Heyward) vs. Dodgers

And two of the three Braves who are getting paid double digits in millions are horse trash. And one is not even on a roster at the moment.

You can talk about money all you want, but at least the Dodgers make player personnel decisions that are smart.

Yup. I mean, given the fact that anyone of those high payed players are a walking DL waiting to happen, but when healthy, no comparison to any team in the league. These guys are starting to smoking hot...We are exactly what they needed

Well, part of being "smart" is being able to paper over mistakes with more money, or take on salary for **** players that you don't want (Crawford) to get guys that you do want (AGon). The Braves don't have either of those luxuries . . . or the ability to sign high-dollar international FAs. So, yeah, money is good.

He's also very young and in his 2nd full season. I'm not giving up on his bat just yet.

Me either, plus I love what he brings with his glove as much as anyone. He's one of my favorite players to watch on defense, not just on the Braves but in MLB.

Uh, what?
Like taking on Carl Crawford?
Or paying Adrian Gonzalez 20+ mil for THAT production?
Beckett is having a bounce back year but they paid him a nice chunk of change last year for nothing.
Andre Ethier making $15.5 mil.
They've made plenty of bad decision. Difference is, they can afford to throw more money out and hope that it works the next time. Braves don't have that luxury.

When you have no limits to spend, you can go after the top targets and spend "wisely" whereas if you're the braves you have to take gambles and risks and overpay for upside.

Cardinals had a comparable payroll to begin the season. I don't see them making excuses.

Yankees lite

A lot of teams haven't won anything recently (including the Dodgers). So, whatever. Mediocre suggests average, and this is an above-average franchise.

All I am saying is fans get frustrated when it's been the same old story for over a decade. The fans have every right to do so as well.

I don't wanna start anything but....they just showed a graphic of "Aces" top tickets selling pitchers and Stras was on there....had to do it. And that curve is flithy

Yeah, **** them. I hate that some teams spend 3, 4, 5x as much as other teams. They can just take on any contract and plug mistakes with more money. Braves are a much better overall organization.

The salaries of their "home-grown" players:

Matt Kemp CF $21,000,000
Andre Ethier CF $15,500,000
Hyun-Jin Ryu SP $3,500,000
Kenley Jansen CL $4,300,000
Yasiel Puig RF $2,000,000
Dee Gordon SS $515,000
Scott Van Slyke LF $507,500

Andre Either is riding the bench. Kemp at 21 million would be 1/5 of our payroll. But hey the Dodgers make smart decisions, not like their money has nothing to do with anything.
