CB could easily get 2 starts a week and innings at the end of wins for defense. I think it will help Gattis stay fresh and healthy for the postseason.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Schaffer released and keep CB.

I thought you had said released. I doubt a backup C with a decent bat goes released. I doubt that very much
Freeman has 3 triples this year already. He also had 2 each of the last 2 years.
He has a motor that doesn't quit. He's a gym rat with deceptive speed.

I suggested this a couple days ago. Get a guy like Bonafacio and do something with Uggla and go with 3 catchers.

WE have a guy in Cunningham. If we have Cunningham, CB, Laird, Pena, and Doumit
Cunningham can play 2B, CF, RF, and LF. Pena can play 3B, 2B, and SS. Doumit can play bat. Laird can play coach. CB lets Gattis move to 1B and LF.
That's just not enough reps. He needs the constant work of an everyday catcher. What you're wanting to do I believe will stunt his growth.

I would probably go ahead and add a 5th catcher in that case. That way when Gattis is tired Bethancourt could back him up. And then Laird could fill in for Bethancourt when Bethancourt gets tired from all that backing up. Then when Laird gets tired, which lets face it is basically after one warm up pitch, Doumit could fill in if needed. If Doumit gets tired then the new 5th catcher could come on in and maybe help out there. But do we need a 6th catcher just in case of emergency?

I'm not convinced CB's time in Atlanta is very long. They said on the broadcast today, that Fredi said Gattis is his everyday. Bethancourt could be used in a trade.

As I said a few days ago I don't think Bethancourt is going back to the minors. What they do with Laird I don't know. Depends when Gattis comes back. If its close to September then they probably keep him.

That poses a great question, even though a defensive catcher may not be that valuable, very early returns on his bat seem to be positive. Versatility as a late defensive replacement could add value. It isn't as if Uggla offers either.
