GDT 8/16/23: Braves vs Yankees - Another Lineup Change

Was this the first time since interleague play started that we swept the Yankees in a series? Not counting 2020

AA has said he likes the fact the Braves and Blue Jays didn’t have singular owners like a Cohen or Steinbrenner. Allowed him to do his job better.

I don’t see him leaving. He sounds like he’s settled and invested into the area and local culture now in interviews.

He could ride this Braves core into the Hall of Fame one day as an executive.

100%. He's in a perfect situation here. He doesn't have to worry about an insane owner and what he's building here is his. This is his team, undisputed.

Also, he has incredible job security. He brought a title to Atlanta. Braves fans are many things but one thing we aren't is fickle. He will always be a Braves legend.

Finally, people underestimate how attractive Atlanta is as a city. There's a reason a lot of athletes and celebs make their homes here.

We are the best board on the planet. We have one of the best -if not the very best- teams in the entire 100 year history of our franchise, are having a phenomenal week having just beat the crap out of both NY teams, are getting healthy (minus Ozzie) and just saw our SP pitch one of the best damn games of his whole career.

What are we talking about ?
Whether or not our our GM is gonna leave, our Ace leaving, and the aforementioned pitcher retiring …..

Just gotta worry about something.. 😂

I’m reminded that Hoyer or I think Cherington was the board fave to replace Coppy as we wanted to go into the saber direction.

I remember the reception on AA hiring being a bit lukewarm here because he wasn’t known as a hardcore analytics guy, but did spend some time post-Toronto in the LAD front office so the hope was he learned under Friedman.

hope AA stays here as long as he wants.

Uh, AA was my number one target. Go back and look.

I don't even want to think about Fried leaving...

I know there are a whole bunch of reasons not to keep a starting pitcher into his 30s, but if we’re going to the market after next year to find an ace, I would rather keep and probably overpay the one we have. Maybe 5-$140M, something like that.

He also said his kids are super invested in the Hawks (Trae), Falcons, and United.

He was on one of Toronto's big radio shows when we played there in May. Mentioned how excited he was for Atlanta to possibly get that new NHL team potentially in alpharetta or Forsyth wherever it is.

So yeah, the job is basically AA's until he doesn't want it anymore. The franchise would have to massively tank under him (I'm not talking about your usual rebuild I'm talking about like a bleak few years of being bad where we don't even have any prospects to hope for coming up).

After 2021 I'd think he has the job, or a job in the org for life if he wanted.

Uh, AA was my number one target. Go back and look.

I think we're just all relieved Dayton Moore turned down the offer to come back when Coppy and Hart got fired.

Apparently it was very very very close, and Dayton said he and his wife decided to stay in KC since he's from there and was given the approval by Glass to stay for another rebuild. A few years later the new owner fires him anyways lol.

Just saw we're 10th in payroll in MLB.

And set up to be one of the top 3 teams in baseball over the next 5+ years.

God bless you AA.

Terry keeps talking about swinging his big dick and us having a top 5 payroll. We will see

We could spend some serious money in the off-season on a starting pitcher named Ohtani, and extend Fried. That would solve our pedestrian payroll problem…. And if it still wasn’t gaudy enough, we could always add Snell too (you know, just in case there’s another injury plague like this year).

They underestimate the crime rate.
