Back when all the extensions were being given out, either he or AA said it directly. He has said he’d listen but his intention was FA.

If we were gonna sign Fried, we probably would have done it by now. He's as good as gone. Just gotta hope AA can get a suitable replacement. There's some damn good options in the next 2 FA classes.

Why is he gone? Why wouldn't we make him an offer? If we need an SP1 why not try and retain the one you've got? I'd rather overpay 30 year old Max Fried than 39 year old Max Scherzer.

With as quick as AA has signed guys to extensions, dont you think if he wanted to sign Fried he would have by now or both sides would have worked something out? Or maybe AA doesnt wanna give Fried the contract he's likely to see in free agency.
 
I mean I wouldn't say it is a foregone conclusion he is gone.. but I think everyone is probably right since every homegrown or big time player was locked up well before their impending FA year was here.. the only guy I can think of AA dragging his feet on was Ozuna and he was on a 1 year deal and I have a feeling since the season was over, he was going to test the market completely before pulling trigger.
 
I'm sure AA and Fried have already exchanged numbers as far as what they are thinking an extension would look like. If it was close, a deal would have been done by now. Just like with Freeman and Swanson....enjoy him while he is here, because he will be leaving via FA after next season.

Plenty will change obviously with extensions and opt out decisions, but that is a pretty robust FA class for starting pitchers.

There's plenty of options to say the least there. Burnes, Wheeler, Fried, Cole possibly, Buehler if he shows he's healthy. There's like never that many possible top end FA SP's on the market.
